Hi,

I posted on http://forums.winamp...&threadid=242649 too:

I wonder if it's somehow possible to switch from one DSP plugin to another (or even just disabling one) without having to click through Winamp's config every time, maybe by writing a script to do that?

Any kind of advice is appreciated!

So if you have ANY idea please tell me. :) I guess one could come up with an AutoHotkey based solution for this, but maybe it's even easier.

Living Room / It won't happen for 100 years
« on: April 04, 2006, 06:52 AM »
On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06 (at least for those using that date format).

That won't happen again for a hundred years. It will be the only 1-2-3-4-5-6 lineup of the time and date that most of us are ever likely to see.

Living Room / Why Phishing Works
« on: March 31, 2006, 01:24 AM »
http://it.slashdot.o...1556226&from=rss

When asked if a phishing site was legit or a spoof, 23% of users use only the content of the website to make the decision! The majority of users ignore the address and SSL indicators in the browser. Some users think that favicons and lock icons in HTML are more important indicators.

Oh my...  :(

Map tracks cereal around the globe

Worldmapper is a one-stop shop for dozens of specialty maps. Depending on your interest, you can view world maps that illustrate such categories as births, tourism, aircraft departures, population in certain years and even cereal imports. (Why cereal? We have no idea.)

The look, feel, and functionality of Microsoft Word, in a completely web-based AJAX platform. Try ajaxWrite today, and experience first-hand how AJAX applications are changing the way the web works, and redefining the software industry.

I didn't test it yet, but it sounds good. Needs at least Firefox 1.5.

Living Room / Health service needs more SMS
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:52 AM »
http://www.theregist...03/28/nhs_needs_sms/ has a nice article about how the use of SMS can reduce costs for health services.

I'm sure this applies to other industries too.

At PC Forum 2006 in Carlsbad, Calif., Barry Schwartz, the author of "The Paradox of Choice," talks about why greater freedom and more choices often make us feel worse.

I read about this topic before, this video has examples from shopping at the super-market, speed-dating and fund-picking: http://news.com.com/...606-2_3-6054793.html

Now how do I download the video?

Living Room / DNA: do you really want to know?
« on: March 28, 2006, 04:55 AM »
Here's the thing: You pay anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars for a genetic test, but what you're really buying is a sense of control. You want to know your dread future and prepare for it - or even prevent it. But with most big genetic scares, like a predisposition for colon cancer, heart problems, or diabetes, what will the doctors tell you? Eat better, stop smoking, get more exercise. You don't need the Delphic Oracle to figure that out.

We believe that RSS should be usable by anyone. We also believe that RSS is not email, feeds should simply wash by, commonly called the "river of news". Alertbear takes both of these concepts and introduces The Stack:

I just installed it and it makes a great first impression already, since it's only version 1.03 yet I think it's going to get even better!

Give it a try, you don't need to know anything about RSS feeds to get started after you installed it: http://www.alertbear.com/

Here's a program with one of the best ratings over at http://fileforum.bet...Muncher/1031644604/1

Publisher's Description:
Ad Muncher removes adverts, popups, and general browsing annoyances from all popular browsers and Web-utilizing programs. It also removes banners displaying and popup generating programs like ICQ, Morpheus, Kazaa, Grokster, iMesh, BearShare, LimeWire, etc.

I used to use Firefox' AdBlock extension, and so I was skeptical at first - but now I'm really happy that I switched: AdBlock really seems to have a memory leak, since I'm now having no more memory issues with Firefox! It's also great that it works for every browser!

Ad Muncher has LOTS of options (great!) which you do not *need* to change to be able to use it (so even people who do not know their PC from the inside out will love it), but *could* change for some fine-tuning. For example you can add pages that you want to support to the "no filtering" category. I'll add here the *good and friendly* pages that I'm visiting, since they deserve to get some money from ads:

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/5764/dcpostadmuncherreviewconfig18x.png

The list of default filters is really impressive, huh?

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/1940/dcpostadmuncherreviewconfig24w.png

Lots of nice options here - I HATE it when sites change the window size... now I LOVE that I will never see that again :)

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/1713/dcpostadmuncherreviewconfig34w.png

Ad Muncher comes with an in-built email-the-devs feature and live chat/tech support (using IRC) - I love programs that include something like that, very helpful for newbies!

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/3866/dcpostadmuncherreviewconfig43i.png

You can also see how much insanity Ad Muncher protected you from:

When you download it it has a 30 days trial version - so go ahead and get it NOW at http://www.admuncher.com/ :)

Still not yet convinced? Take a look:

Mini-Reviews by Members / --> PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST <--
« on: March 21, 2006, 10:29 AM »
So you want to write a Mini-Review about something? Great!

Please make sure to add images to your post! Images allow other users to quickly grasp "what it's all about" (see example: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1385.0 ).

You don't always need to create your own screenshots (but of course DC's own Screenshot Captor is always there for you), often you'll find screenshots online that you could simply link here by using the img tags (click the "Insert image" button that you see above every post).

Still having questions? Feel free to ask!

Thanks :)

Living Room / affordable remote power management?
« on: March 19, 2006, 08:28 AM »
Hi,

does anyone of you know about some affordable hardware, that allows the user to power up/down external devices? It would be great if it would connect to an USB port and extra cool if it would come with some sort of software.

With Google's help I found some stuff for professional server management only - nice but VERY expensive...

Unfinished Requests / IDEA: Detect no audio input
« on: March 17, 2006, 01:47 PM »
Hi,

I'm recording stuff from an external source. Since this is automated I'd like some very visible indicator that would warn me if something's wrong with the external devices, meaning there's no input to AUX at all for more than a minute. Maybe a tiny blue icon that would start to flash in red? Or a tiny (above all others) window in the screen corner? Or something else?

Could that be done? Any idea?

Post New Requests Here / DONE: pastebin.com text uploader
« on: March 16, 2006, 03:04 PM »
Hi,

I just thought that it would be helpful to have a little script upload the text you have in the clipbaord to http://pastebin.com/ - it 'just' needs to set the syntax highlighting to "No", paste the text, click the Send button (no need for a name) and retrieve the resulting URL, which it could copy to the clipboard then.

Being able to trigger that all with a hotkey would possibly be the best solution.

Anyone willing/able to do it? :)

http://bugs.miranda-...org/view.php?id=1606

:o :(

Anyone here able and willing to enhance Miranda's (already damn cool!) IRC plugin a bit?

It's about an option that displays a red line whenever the IRC window is losing focus or when you switch to another IRC tab. That way, when you go back to the IRC window or switch back to a tab you were in before you'll immediately see where you left. I heard both mIRC and Trillian have such an option already, I'd LOVE to have that in Miranda's IRC plugin too!
