one of the major benefits of the netlimiter is that if you are more than one person using one connection, and when you have to download large files continuously by several programs, you can limit the connection speed of your computer at that period in order not to prevent the other network users traffic. if you wish, you need not limit the whole computer speed -- only the software you choose.

Fastest and Best free solution for 1 time used email addresses, to avoid spams, is:

http://www.spambox.us/

you create a temporary address, and for instance, you signup for a forum that you will use for one time, and this temporary email address destroys itself after a specified time. You can use it anywhere that you will need to use the email address only one time and will no longer use.

It takes a few seconds to create the disposable email address....

General Software Discussion / Summarizers - Copernic, Intellexer
« on: February 14, 2009, 03:11 PM »
It is interesting to note that in such a large forum that discussed almost all of the software topics, I can not find any mention of summarizers by searching from the search box above. (or am I doing something wrong? should have I gone to the advanced search?)

I took a short test of copernic summarizer in the past. now downloaded the intellexer summarizer and will test it to see how it does.

So -- just posting here to start a topic on these softwares and if there are any, other summarizers.

Are they really effective? Is the overall meaning integrity the same - or are there any bugs-glitches that can change the meaning of a text a lot which can somewhat create trouble? what is the optimum percentage to use (as you might know, you can choose how much percentage to use in order to shorten a text - the less the percentage, the shorter the summary)?

Of course it is not preferable to depend on such tools on very important tasks --- but I believe it can drastically improve the productivity of most of those who are dealing with lots of lengthy texts. (although I am not one those who read very long text frequently, I am curious on what can be achieved with these tools and think that it can be useful from time to time)

for all problems related to firefox / thunderbird the best place to go is bugzilla and register there.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

you can search the knowledgebase and there is high probability that the same problem you are having is shared by other people there. If not --- open your ticket and someone there will respond.

I solved lots of problems I had with Mozilla prooducts at bugzilla. Most of the problems I had was already listed there.  Or responded for me.

And you can even ask for a new feature in the Mozilla products. If it is seen necessary new feature will be added to Mozilla.

Have HP RW6815 IPAQ

« on: February 09, 2009, 03:55 PM »
from the article:

....................claims that the SQL Injection attack on usa.kaspersky.com has exposed activation codes............

the activation codes will circulate in the warez sites and how will kaspersky will deal with it? how will it notify lots of legitimate customers which are the real owners of the activation codes to contact Kaspersky to get the new unblocked activation codes / keys?.... They can tell this by a system tray notification but some of the legitimate customers still may not know what to do.....

the poll seems to be outdated. Is the Copernic Desktop Search really good? or the information is obsolete?

A few weeks ago I purchased "walkbook" ebook reader, second hand, from an auction site.

You can even take digital notes on it by the stylus pen in handwriting.

In all e-book readers, the e-ink technology is specifically produced to give the product a feel as if you are reading a real book.

PDA's or other devices are different and does not give the feeling like you are reading a book. I have a PDA but the e-book reader is in a very different category. In the e-ink technology, the screen has no light like the PDA's or computers and it is like a page of a book. In the dark you see nothing unless you use booklight and under the sun or room light it is like a paper, pages written on it as ink and more clear. In the PDA's you can not read under the sun.

So, one, and most apparent difference is the e-ink technology. Other products like PDA or similar computers are harder to read because of the screen technology, when compared to standard books or e-book readers. Another difference that the e-ink technology makes is the battery consumption. Once the page is displayed on the screen, it stays there forever --- no battery consumption while you read that page until you turn the page. So a battery can discharge only after tens of thousands of page turns. The technology is different, as the name implies: e-ink.

The one I use allows you to convert any document to the format recognized by the reader. You can reformat change, repaginate or do anything and convert by the conversion software that comes with the product. Screen is almost near to the size of a standard book.

I am totally satisfied with it and nowadays despite being a frugal person, I can tell that I am totally satisfied with the investment I made by purchasing this product and can strongly recommend anyone to use e-ink based readers.

General Software Discussion / Hard Disk Heat
« on: February 02, 2009, 03:37 AM »
The heat of my hard disk started to vary between 53 degrees - 60 degrees.

Does this mean that there is a problem with it and does it need to be replaced?

For my information not to repeat the same mistake; This is a notebook and I use it vertical to the floor (parallel to the side walls)

After the heat problem, I no longer use it that way however the heat problem continues but would that kind of usage be the problem that caused the problem? that the HDD was vertical to the floor?

General Software Discussion / Re: How would you market Windows 7?
« on: January 25, 2009, 08:31 AM »

hey -- your logo really looks fine  :)

I was thinking: New and Improved!!! Now sucks less!!!

But that's just me.

(Actually, I quite like what they're doing with Windows 7. Heck, I'll even do them a logo if they want:
 (see attachment in previous post)
I'm planning on using this logo ©2009 on my website BTW

But I wish they'd rename it to:

Windows-7  - or -
   Windows7   - or -
      WindowsSeven

or maybe even Windows VII ...

In short, anything other than Windows 7.

That big empty space between the word 'Windows' and the numeral '7' just looks wrong to me. I keep thinking it's a typo.

<EDIT: Added the logo. I was feeling creative this morning... ;D)

General Software Discussion / Microsoft Word Question --
« on: January 16, 2009, 04:20 PM »

Is there any way to increase the font size of a word document without changing the pagination? When I try it, the pages slip and the pagination of the word file is distorted. As the files contain hundreds of pages, it is almost impossible to correct the pagination one by one. Any ideas?

General Software Discussion / Re: Online Multi Anti Virus Scanners?.
« on: January 06, 2009, 11:06 AM »
Any ideas from anyone else on this issue? If we divide a 100MB file into five 20MB file parts by winzip or winrar, and submit all these parts to online multi virus scanners one by one (because online multi virus scanners do not allow more than 20MB per file), will the result be exactly same just like we scan the 100MB file? Of course I guess the online virus scanner will not know if these files are linked to each other because we send them seperately to it, and it will analyze each one respectively on their own. so the question: if there is a virus, will the result be same for 20MBx5 one by one and 100MB(original)?... Can we bypass the limit of the online virus scanners this way?
