How would you market Windows 7?
« on: January 24, 2009, 08:35 PM »
Microsoft is looking for a marketing manager for Windows 7. Word of mouth is important to establish the buzz of an OS version. (Vista's was "The wow starts now" and that didn't play well, as we know.) But off the top of your head, how would you market Windows 7?

(Sorry, I love this calculator)

Text: It took us 7 tries but gee whiz I think we finally got it!

song plays, cue to people dancing and then the screen pans to a monitor with Songsmith

Text: What? You didn't think we needed to improve on anything else did you?

multiple error boxes open, some guy tries to move the cursor but the pc was hanging, windows was showing the "it doesn't have enough memory" balloon messages and then some guy in the background shouts:

"Damn it! I knew installing Songsmith on XP wasn't enough!"

cue to Windows 7 screen

Windows 7
It's coming folks

then a smaller text fades in with:
(Windows XP no longer available: /insert any date prior to the date shown in the PC XP)

Ha!!  ;D I won't be switching back from Linux, but I'm hoping my XP-loving/Vista-hating wife enjoys 7. For anyone using Windows, they deserve a good experience with it.

As for slogans, one of the best was Microsoft's Where do you want to go today? But this time around I think,

Windows 7: 4chan approved!

will do nicely.

I was thinking: New and Improved!!! Now sucks less!!!

But that's just me.

(Actually, I quite like what they're doing with Windows 7. Heck, I'll even do them a logo if they want:

Win7small.gif

I'm planning on using this logo on my website BTW

But I wish they'd rename it to:

Windows-7  - or -
   Windows7   - or -
      WindowsSeven

or maybe even Windows VII ...

In short, anything other than Windows 7.

That big empty space between the word 'Windows' and the numeral '7' just looks wrong to me. I keep thinking it's a typo.

<EDIT: Added the logo. I was feeling creative this morning... ;D)

"Windows 7" is indeed a pretty bad name, as it's relatively hard to do proper searches for - a more unique name would be more sure to get you the right hits.

Hire George Clooney and have him say : "Windows 7, what else !"

If it will be good than simple "Windows 7 - back to normal" phrase can be good.

I can imagine a spot with guy in suit (and super BMW and lot of gel on hairs - white and shiny all of it) vs. particular John Smith being (in American car, obviously - if there's any). The fop can throw money away everywhere: easy girls, easy life and ignorance. While "normal" guy is presented with family, kids and happy dinner table. Maybe daughter coming from school and... delicate text (mentioned above) of advertisement.

Or maybe just a "Windows 7 - no more lies" ;)

True.

Still...if Milla were to drop by my place, and whisper 'it' in my ear, I'd be very much inclined to listen, along with some other activities. ;)

Delightful little creature, that one.
