General Software Discussion / Summarizers - Copernic, Intellexer

It is interesting to note that in such a large forum that discussed almost all of the software topics, I can not find any mention of summarizers by searching from the search box above. (or am I doing something wrong? should have I gone to the advanced search?)

I took a short test of copernic summarizer in the past. now downloaded the intellexer summarizer and will test it to see how it does.

So -- just posting here to start a topic on these softwares and if there are any, other summarizers.

Are they really effective? Is the overall meaning integrity the same - or are there any bugs-glitches that can change the meaning of a text a lot which can somewhat create trouble? what is the optimum percentage to use (as you might know, you can choose how much percentage to use in order to shorten a text - the less the percentage, the shorter the summary)?

Of course it is not preferable to depend on such tools on very important tasks --- but I believe it can drastically improve the productivity of most of those who are dealing with lots of lengthy texts. (although I am not one those who read very long text frequently, I am curious on what can be achieved with these tools and think that it can be useful from time to time)

General Software Discussion / Hard Disk Heat

The heat of my hard disk started to vary between 53 degrees - 60 degrees.

Does this mean that there is a problem with it and does it need to be replaced?

For my information not to repeat the same mistake; This is a notebook and I use it vertical to the floor (parallel to the side walls)

After the heat problem, I no longer use it that way however the heat problem continues but would that kind of usage be the problem that caused the problem? that the HDD was vertical to the floor?

Is there any way to increase the font size of a word document without changing the pagination? When I try it, the pages slip and the pagination of the word file is distorted. As the files contain hundreds of pages, it is almost impossible to correct the pagination one by one. Any ideas?

I know a lot of online multi anti virus scanners such as virustotal or jotti and many of them. But I do not know any of them that can scan more than 20MB (preferably more than 100Mb). Anyone knows such a multi anti virus scanner online (not single antivirus -- the ones like the virus total) that can scan that much large files?

this  is a useful utility... what it does is that it preloads firefox in the windows startup just like the internet explorer does and firefox starts faster when you launch it...

General Software Discussion / Wireless Synchronization of Mobile PC via Activesync ?

I have a pocket PC that has mobile 5.0 and Activesync 4.1 . I can not make synchronization with notebook pc by wireless connection and I heard that this wireless synchronization is disabled in the new versions of the windows mobile and activesync. Is this correct and how can I bypass this limitation?

General Software Discussion / Proxy / Tunneling ???

Hello.... In one of the computers I use, almost all the ports all blocked and there are forbidden websites - even facebook or similar sites.... The web based proxy servers are blocked too.... To summarize --- webalizer is used and there is some sort of censorship..

What I want to do is to install a proxy/tunneling software on another computer of mine in different location and use it as a proxy on the computer in another location... So I want to use my other computer on the internet as a proxy....

I tried some software as ccproxy but haven't managed to make it work... I guess it is a proxy for network computers - not computers on the internet...

Is there any software that can accomplish what I want to have done?.. I prefer freeware...

General Software Discussion / MSI S260 touchpad ?

One of my laptops (MSI S260) frozen and I took it to the service... I am told the touchpad is not  working and they ask 90USD + tax (around 115 USD)....

when compared to the price of the laptop itself, this price seemed funny for a touchpad....

I am trying to find from ebay -- as all the  touchpads are almost the same....

but the issue is the size to fit --- so the model of the synaptics touchpad matters...

I can not find what model of touchpad the MSI S260 has... even not in the manual.... where can I find the exact model of the synaptics so that I can order the correct touchpad from ebay abroad....

so --- any suggestions?....

I am using a VPS for having some software remain open 24 hours a day.... I found a solution to get notified when the server is down with the help of the members here, by their suggested softwares and services..... But I am having one other program needed: When the windows on the VPS reboots, the software needs some manual interventions to work properly and for that reason I need a software that sends free SMS and sends email (both of them) when the windows reboots... Can such a program be programmed?...

Is there any service that regularly checks an internet connection of a computer (windows VPS in my case - not a web page), that notifies the user when there is a disconnection?....

Of course this service must be in another place so that it can notify of a possible interruption in the internet connection of the windows...... can be by pinging or by refreshing a web page or other ways...

does anyone knows such a service?....

second program I look for is a software that emails me when the VPS (windows 2003) is restarted without my attendance.....

Any here knows such softwares?....

General Software Discussion / Battery Icon Stuck ???

Hello... Sorry for posting here as I did not see any hardware section....

My problem is, when charging the battery, sometimes it stucks at a certain % and stays there -- no longer appears to be charged.... I do not know if it is related to battery life but I have been using the laptop for 2 years and I used it more than 95% of the times plugged in (of course sometimes there can be power failure that activates the battery)..... Fo more than a year my laptop is 24/5 open except for the weekends.... But I still do not believe the life of the battery is ended because when it is charged 100%, then it works for nearly 2 hours without plug --- as it is in its first day.....

When the battery icon is stuck, I remove the battery, and try to clean the metal parts (I do not know if it is necessary or not) restart the computer and sometimes the problem is solved... Removing the battery and putting it back I guess is what solves the problem (no longer  stuck and charges).....

What can be done to solve the problem?.... Is it related to to the connector parts of the batter or notebook?... Or any solution you can provide?..

Anybody know how the browsing history of Firefox in the address bar can bar can be deleted?....

Before the version 3.0, I used to have it delete them automatically when the browser closes....

But it no longer deletes the address bar history / auto completion.... "delete private data" does not do it too....

Any ideas?..
