i really only meant i'd take the background out if it was printed on a t-shirt - i just think a solid rectangle would look a bit odd, i.e. it wouldn't look like it had been designed for a t-shirt - which it wasn't.

Ah, Now I understand.  I also see what you mean.  I think in general I agree.  Given these examples, I would say (for a shirt), the order I like them best is:  4,1,2,3.  You are right, it just doesn't look right with the hard corners on a shirt.  Now for the web page....

I prefer 4 and then 1. I don't see 2 and 3 on a T-shirt but on a splash screen.

To make referencing the versions easier, I did this quick hackjob (and probably got the image order wrong :D)

Nope, right order.  Though I look at them all at once and I still like them in the same order best (4, 1, 2, 3)...well, 1 & 2 pretty much tie right behind 4 in my opinion.

I agree! 1 & 2 are a tie, but 4 looks best with 3 in definite last place.

The first quarter's points of the contest have been tallied. The highest scoring game was scored at 6200 and the lowest at 1500. Docoto Defense is right in the middle at 3800. Read more about it on the MyDreamRPG forum.

Some quick suggestions for getting the points up (from Dave of MyDreamRPG) is to get up a website, show some more concept art, and improvements to the design document.

Also be sure to read up on the latest blog entry with design document details (focusing on multiplayer this time) at http://docoto.dcisv.com/.

It would be nice to see some sample gui mock-ups of the game.

Having seen your drawing skills, which are similar to mine, I wonder if there isn't someone on the forum who might be willing to help in this department..

Congratulations Deozaan on the good score.  That is great for what is basically a one-man project team. Good luck.

i'm half way through finishing the tower for the main splash screen or whatever it is. when that is done i'm more than happy to get on with other things - just provide a list of images (or send me a quick scribbled sketch).

as for the user interface - i don't mind lending a hand with that - you'll have to provide me with the direction to go in. but, of course, if someone else is willing to cover this area then i've plenty to be getting on with elsewhere.

if you want quick concept sketches to fill the blog up with then, again, just give me an idea of what it is that is required and i'll have a go - i haven't got much to work with at the moment as things haven't really been decided upon - have they?

I need a really really really big favor!

I just got back in town this morning at about 1:30am and was planning on writing my monthly GarageGames blog entry today but an emergency has come up and I need to go back out of town.

I need someone to summarize July's weekly blog entries on progress on the game and a quick summary of the different sections from the Design Doc that have been posted into a nice coherent thing I can just copy and paste for the GG blog.

Thanks mouser!

Weekly blog entitled Artificial Intelligence and monthly GarageGames blogs are up!

I was out of town all last week so no progress was made, but this week's blog talks about the AI that will be used for the game and how it differs from all other TD games we've seen thus far.

Another blog is up entitled Other Modes of Play!

This one talks about TGB's broken 3D Shape rotation, the transition from a 2D engine to a 3D engine, some more fabulous art by nudone, and more from the design document.

I didn't mention last week's blog entry as I figured that weekly updates of "Yes it's still being worked on, no I don't have anything to show you," were a little pointless.

However it might be interesting to see that Docoto Defense is changing its core technology from 2D TGB to 3D TGE (mentioned as a possibility a couple weeks ago) and the new discussions that is bringing about. With that I've had to take some steps back and learn the 3D engine environment and related issues so again there isn't anything more to show, but yes, it's still being worked on.

As mentioned in this week's blog entry, right now I'm looking at buying the RTS Starter Kit ($50) and the AFX Combo Pack ($75). Since Tower Defense is basically a minimalized RTS, there are some obvious benefits an RTS Kit would have, such as camera control, unit selection/building, and a multiplayer lobby. The AFX technology information page looks like it is mainly for magical spell systems, but really the technology can be adapted for targeting and shooting from the towers and many other nifty things.

Mouser has been kind enough to buy me a Torque Book ($60) which just arrived today and we both agree on the usefulness both the RTS Kit and AFX Combo Pack would have for the game. Unfortunately, being the starving college student I am (except not technically really "starving") these things are a bit pricey. I have just under $15 in DonationCredits and would love for that number to be somewhat higher to make buying these resources more affordable. For anyone with a few extra dollars willing to make a contribution, it would be very much appreciated!

That's it for this time. Thanks everyone!

Hi everyone.

It's been a while since I posted in this thread, mostly due to discouragement of the project not making much progress. I finally took a step back and examined my position and came to some conclusions. Those conclusions led to some progress!  (GASP!)

It's not much, but there's a video you can watch of some turrets tracking multiple enemies and firing at them. Considering this was all done yesterday, I'd say it's neat. But it's far from perfect or complete.

Basically, the turrets just shoot every second no matter where they're aimed at. After being instructed to target a certain class of enemies, the turret will track the nearest one of that type.

For more info, see the blog -> Turret Tracking.

For the videos, I have a low-res version and a hi-res version both in AVI format: Small (~8MB) or Large (~22MB).
