Anyone here try it yet? I've downloaded it but am holding off installing just yet because I'd like to see what problems people run into before I "go for it"...

Like wise - actually Josh that was the page I was looking at when I posted it - they must have updated it this evening 'cos when I looked it still showed RC1

Well, I bit the bullet and installed it - felt a bit selfish announcing that I was waiting for someone else to take risks on my behalf! Anyway, am posting this from IE7 and have two tabs open. Pleasant, but hardly earth shattering. I haven't used it much other than to post this note, so am not in a position to give a considered review yet. My first impression, though, is that the menus and toolbars are a dog's breakfast... I had RC1 installed and find this much more frustrating.

I WILL say this, though, I had a helluva time installing it. I had to turn off my firewall and antispyware AND I had to run the installer from C: drive - running it from F:, which is where My Documents reside, and with anti-spyware and firewall enabled crashed my computer three times.

YMMV.

Will my present IE settings be carried out if I upgrade? Do you still need to verify to install IE7??

Does it still have problems with http link icons when upgrading from IE 6? I mean in my case, the start menu - programs links are usually broken, the icons should look like IE 7 but they are different. I could manually fix them from File Types but this job takes too much time.

Any offline legit ways to verify and install? Need to update my base image/snapshot of my Windows.

Is the microsoft download link down? I'm stuck at http://www.microsoft...nloads/form.aspx?s=1 . Clicking the link on that page does not help either. Using Opera by the way.

Well... I've been having problems with IE7/Maxthon 1.57 (which skins and augments IE) failing to connect to servers on file download. Problem is the same whether using IE 7 by itself or using Maxthon. Clearing the cache and deleting cookies, rebooting makes no difference BUT downloading and installing Firefox 1.5 solved everything :)

I've been a diehard Maxthon fan for years but I'm loving the latest build of Firefox... Will be watching the progress with version 2 with real interest. I am about 95% sure that I'm going to switch to FF permanently. I've had FF 1.5 installed in the past but had no serious interest in switching over, so didn't really "explore" that much with it, but I love what I see now.

PS Love Opera, too, but it is not supported by Roboform. This is a dealbreaker for me...

Sorry, Firefox is still the best, imho. IE7 looks like they are getting closer to copying Mozilla.

For a person who happily uses Firefox 99% of the time, is there any compelling reason to install IE7?

Well Firefox does not hide IE engine so if we assume IE7 is "safer" than IE6 you should upgrade - which you probably will have to at some point anyway.

May be MS developers can convince you to go back? http://channel9.msdn...t.aspx?postid=246705

Because of that 1% of the time you end up using IE and you don't have tabbed browsing. That's reason enough for me.

mrainey, you don't have to use it, but it's a good idea to upgrade to the final version anyway. The installation worked flawlessly on the four machines I updated yesterday. Took longer on the slower machines, of course. I love the new UI, but for Microsoft to skip so many CSS2 specs is just stunning. Opera and Firefox have dusted IE. IE8, anyone?

does it matter anyhow? :)
after the length of time they had neglected IE, i reckon that the MS team will need double that time to catch up with other browsers. but having said that, i think it's good to install IE7 so that you're not left out of any critical updates..

I have installed it - main complaint is that tabbed browsing is too slow to be useful - try opening 6 tabs on DC's unread posts page in new tabs - it takes forever - whereas it is pretty quick in Firefox to open 20 !

The other odd thing is I have had a couple of random reboots since installing it - but it may be that I have a corrupted driver somewhere.
