After installing ie7, maxthon, which is my preferred browser, began shutting down of its own accord roughly every 2 or 3 minutes.
No fuss(eg screen freeze), no warning, just shut and disappeared. Returning to pre ie7 times via system restore fixed the problem.

Also getting random system freezes on XP SP2 - they are total and are only recovered by resetting the machin via the button!!

By total I mean the mouse stops moving, no keyboard response and even the hourglass on screen and other dynamic icons freeze.

I thought this was supposed to be impossible on XP ???

tsaint - I'm having the same problem with Maxthon. Another IE7 specific issue (that affects Maxthon as well) is that some webpages render wrong - the margins get cut off. Actually, I've noticed this on one website in particular - it's a Canadian newspaper ( here's an example) - if you visit the comments section for any story the right hand margin is cut off so that you can just see the right most edge of the number of the comment. You can't, however, make out what the number is! Zooming the view in or out doesn't help, either. Firefox renders these same pages perfectly, as did IE6. Note, though, that I can't get Firefox to render Outlook webmail properly either, so in my case I defninitely need two browsers installed (our e-mail accounts for work are ONLY accessible with an e-mail client when accessed from the work domain and then only as IMAP).
