Thanks for the info.
He Gizmo Richards deserves some rest now, at 75.

It is good that the site continues as it has helped me a lot in the past.

Regards,

Anand

Just to clarify, Ian (gizmo) is retiring not traveling to the great beyond  :P

Ian (gizmo) was one of the very very very first people to ever mention donationcoder back in 2005 when it was just an idea.  He recommended us and his readers were incredibly supportive.

Techsupportalert has always been the best site for discovering freeware, hands down.

So congratulations to Ian, and may the site continue to do good work after he retires!

Oh yes. He said his retirement was long over due.
And yes I mean 'rest' literally itself :)

So congratulations to Ian, and may the site continue to do good work after he retires!

Jojo, Midnight Cowboy, Rhiannon and George Lewe are taking over so I guess the site will be just fine.

So how long has it been since techsupportalert started pushing full-page popup ads, did I miss the start or is this new?

Guys and Rhiannon have taken over the site and have to push ads because otherwise the site will shut down due to lack of funding (in less than 5 months or so).

There's ads and there's that thing. No matter how much they need money, that kind of ad isn't right.

From the forum:
"... We're working with the network to filter out those unwanted ads and reducing the impact by not showing their ads to logged-in users for the time being.

Our efforts do not stop here. We're still in the process of trying out alternate ad networks and hopefully, we can get one that is sustainable ..."

If they go on as is, they'll undermine the credibility of the site.  Who's going to believe anything said by a site that pushes spammy clickbait, full screen at that?

I liked that site when I still cared for and about freeware. I even was (or still am? I should check that) an editor once. The problem is that there is no actual discussion going on there. Every editor can just act freely, making the site a collection of articles of varying depth and quality.
