Cannot capture browser windows
« on: September 16, 2020, 02:20 PM »
Every time I try to capture a browser window, (the sole reason I bought this program,) the program takes control of the browser and attempts to open a location at www_getwindoinfo, obscuring the page I intended to capture.

Windows 10 Pro Version 2004 OS Build 19041.508
Firefox 80.0.1 (64 Bit)

This is disappointing.

Could you explain a little about what method you are attempting to use to capture the window? I have just tried it using the latest SSC, Firefox and Windows build (using every capture method I could think of) and cannot replicate this behaviour.

The image below was captured using "Capture windows object or scrolling window" then CTRL+Left Click on the window I wanted.

I expect the OP's computer is either virus-infected or the browser is hijacked, so it opens that site on specific keypresses.

GetWindowInfo() is a Windows Api method.
Maby under some strange circumstances does SSC send out that method name, and Browser does interprete it as "www .methodname .com" ?

Well, then I'd expect all ScreenshotCaptor/Firefox users would experience that, I guess (and I've been using them together since 'the beginning of time' (or about that long, since 2006 at least)) and never saw that happening.

1. what method sre you using to capture
(2. does this happen with all methods?)

EDIT// I see Stephen asked already, no harm to ask twice though...

This the second reporting of this problem:

When trying to do anything with SSC with v4.36.1, it opens another tab looking for www.getwindowinfo.com which is a totally blank webpage. The version before this, it would always enlarge the webpage, making it useless to try to capture anything on the right side of the webpage because it would now be off screen. No problem with Chrome.

I did some more testing today with a slightly older build of SSC and still cannot replicate this at all.

OP: Any info you can give us would be greatly appreciated :)

I am encountering this issue with Firefox 80.0.1 (64-bit) on Windows 10 2004 using Screenshot Captor 4.36.2; to trigger this issue, I have found that a Firefox window must be the active window when any capture option is invoked (if a capture is invoked directly from the Screenshot Captor window, it is sufficient for a Firefox window to have been the immediately prior active window prior to Screeenshot Captor taking focus).
When a capture is then triggered, Firefox opens a tab in that active Firefox window with the URL http://www_getwindowinfo/.
This leads me to guess that perhaps as part of the capture process Screenshot Captor is trying to perform a GetWindowInfo API call to the window in question, but it is being sent instead as a message to the window which Firefox construes as a request to load _getwindowinfo as a URL?

Using: Firefox 80.0.1 and then 81.0 (64-bit) [It updated during the test]
Latest Windows 10 build
Screenshot Captor: v4.36.2 (Licensed)

Firefox Window: Focused

Attempted to capture screen using both Keyboard Shortcuts, Quick Capture Bar and from within the Screenshot Captor Main Window.

All capture methods attempted (Minus Full-Screen DirectX)

Result: Cannot Replicate

Firefox Window: Last Focused Window

Result: Cannot Replicate (Same process as above)

----

Can anybody else give this a try to see if we can help mouser get to the bottom of it? :)

From a very quick google, this seems to actually be an issue caused by adware/malware.

https://forums.malwa...ad-of-getwindowinfo/
https://soft2secure....se/www_getwindowinfo

Please can the OP use something like MalwareBytes (or your prefered method) to see if anything is flagged?

(I cannot be 100% sure this is the case but it certainly seems plausible).

Thanks!
