this is not of import to anyone except potential reviewers.
its a download with some html files that just have the skeleton of a review (and review preview),
to be filled in by reviewer.

I was thinking about working on a mini-review and was looking for a template. Not sure if this is for a full blown review or a mini-review.

In any case, the template cannot be downloaded. I think it is missing.

Thanks pateo i will upload a new version.

For mini-reviews, you dont need to download anything, just start a new post and choose the mini-review template from the Preset Text dropdown.

Cool.

Never noticed the Add Preset Text dropdown box.

Just one question. A review is a little different from a regular post.

We want to do a good job of it which means there's a need to have a place to store say a draft which then can be worked on over a period of time which may be a few days or more as we work through the app. I mean how many of us can do it all at one sitting and get a review well done.

Of course this can be done offline. But is there a place on the forum where we can use this template and create a draft that only the reviewer and of course the administrator can view and then it is the reviewer who finally releases it when it is ready.

I think this will make it less intimidating particularly when posting the 1st or even subsequent reviews and perhaps more donationcoders to do mini or even full reviews.

On the administrator side, they can also see how many of such reviews are in the pipeline and at what stage they are in.

only you (and admin) can read the posts you make there, so it's perfect for writing a draft and modifying it over time until you get it just like you want it before you make the real post.

I was conceptualising one or more mini-reviews but the thought of having to do it all at one go was putting me off, or should I say making me procrastinate.

Now I have no more excuse. But wait,

I can still blame it on Christmas, and then there's the New Year, Easter etc and of course all the interesting posts by Donationcoder members.

I'm working on a review and would like to include a flash demo say called abc.swf

I'm a little stumped as to how to include it in the review.

I tried to use

[Select]

[attach=1][/attach]

But I cannot figure out how to reference the abc.swf

My apologies, I'm a little dumb here.

Any help would be appreciated.

I added that because if you don't add it, you don't see what you wrote, but see an error, saying there's no attachment. I'll show you. The next 2 lines are that same thing, on the first line inside the code tag and on the second one, without it.

[Select]

[attach=1][/attach]

[ Invalid Attachment ]

As you can see, the second line is replaced by a parse error from the forum

normally you would just attach it at the bottom of the new post form, the same way you would attach an image - im not sure if it will like having swf's attach though. if not, send me the swf from your mini review via emal and i will upload it to the site and you can just link to it.

OK, I just email you the swf.

It's not 100% done yet as I was testing it to see how it looks. But I think it's almost there and I may not make further modifications to it.

When I was using it, I could never tell what the end result was going to look like until you actually put it on the site. Something about php being difficult to preview or something.

What is puzzling me is that I believe that I have seen others post a ...swf file inline in a review. I have tried various tags without success

When I clicked the Flash icon in the editing toolbar of the forum, I get

{flash=200,200}{/flash}

But {flash=200,200}abc.swf{/flash}

Where abc.swf has been added as an attachment.

All I get is http://abc.swf

The flash file does not animate or for that matter appear.

I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

Please note that I have used {} instead of [] so that the simulated tags can be seen

i know it sounds like a waste, but the easiest way is to simply click modify on your post in personal area, copy the post contents, and make a new post in the mini review section and paste the contents..

as an administrator i ican also MOVE your post, but the only problem with that is that it will get sorted as if it was written a long time ago. you can send me a private message to work out more details.

Sounds good. One thing I was thinking of for the next notetaking roundup, since there will be a lot of content, I'd like to split it up in a few more pages accessible by clicking on links, so that everything won't be in one long page. I don't know how to do this, but hopefully it won't be too hard. Thanks.

Looks like the best way is to use the first method. The only thing that will make it a slight hassle is that of uploading the jpgs. Will have to put them in the right order or the jpgs will be all jumbled up.

Ideally there should be a way to select multiple jpgs and they will upload in sequence.

Also, there seems to be no way to insert a new jpg in between previously uploaded jpgs, or for that matter, reordering them when changes are made to the review.

That said, there should of course be a way to just Move the post and still have it reflected as a new post. Of course, this could just be a limitation in the forum software.

your comments are good and i think i should add a mod to the forum to let admin adjust posting date which would solve the move problem.

another hint:
you can actually easily change the order of images in your post to reflect the upload order,
for example use

[Select]

[attach=3][/attach]

to say where to show the 3rd attachment, and

[Select]

[attachthumb=3][/attachthumb]

to show 3rd attachment as a thumbnail where you want it.

I'm getting myself ready to complete another Mini-review. I was just wondering if there's another way of attaching a swf to the mini-review without having to go through the trouble of emailing Mouser and getting the link from him.

That is, how does one do it via the mini-review template ?

Has the problem now been resolved ?

Does anyone have an answer ?
