thinking of some earning
« on: October 09, 2015, 06:42 AM »
I am thinking of some earning.
The free apps I make will remain free. The website I make for them can accommodate some ads.

This is how the internet is now and I am planning to go along. I read about adsense.
In summary,
I can apply but may not be approved,
My income is not guaranteed,
Google can disable adsense any time without reason,
May require extra work for the adsense to work.

Presently I am looking at it as an extra source of income, if possible with minimum work.

I will be happy to get comments for fellow developers who have experience in adsense, guidance etc.

Regards,

Anand

Hmm...looks like I will have to earn the experience too.

Ok will try to apply for adsense first, let's see what happens.

I've never done it, so I have no practical advice. But I'll say there isn't much of a downside to adsense ads. They're pretty unobtrusive, quick-loading, and so pervasive I doubt anyone will think poorly of you. Test your site with an adblocker on to make sure it doesn't break layout, and I'd add a "donate" link as well.

Go for it -- it cannot hurt to try -- and will be a good learning experience!
Adsense is not going to turn you down.. those rules are for people running very questionable sites.

DonationCoder has always focued on free and donationware software but we have never been against the idea that software developers need to be able to find a way to make some money from their work.  There is nothing wrong with putting ads on your site, or exploring the idea of charging for your software (especially for the commercial use of it, etc.)!  Just let us know how your experiments go!

Do try AdSense, but don't get your hopes up. You need to drive a LOT, and I mean a **LOT** of traffic to make anything worth mentioning. Experiment with the ad placements as well, because that can make a big difference.

I've run relatively high-traffic sites before with AdSense, and at the end of the day, it was... meh... But I didn't put a lot into pushing the ads either as I wanted them to be relatively low-key and not over-power the site. Today that doesn't matter so much, so take my own experience with a grain of salt -- the online world is different now.

That being said... I have a million Google AdSense emails telling me to fix some info so I can get paid... Haven't looked yet, and I'm not expecting it to be much.

Renegade is right -- it will be an interesting experiment but be prepared for pennies per week  >:(

My experience (back in 2004) with Adsense was negative - I have told the story somewhere, may be even on DC, a couple of times - but you shouldn't worry about being turned down. Go for it.

Thanks everybody for the motivation  :)

I will try it and yes, will keep posted here. It is a new area for me and I want to start, not expecting too much soon, but may help me in longer run, when I will be very old.

Well after trying few times and then googling, I found that "Google withdrew support for adding Adsense ads to Google Sites" https://productforum...ic/sites/byQt8BIChis

Only Blogger and WordPress allowed, as free sites https://support.goog...e/answer/42534?hl=en

Looks like more work than I thought. I find working on Google sites much easier than WordPress. Let me see how I can manage a blog along with my g.sites. Pause at present.

Anand
