It should be fading in on hover... maybe I just need to make it fade in more and change the animation.  Let me tweak it a bit more.
Sorry,  I wasn't clear about what I meant. It does fade in on hover now, but not enough for me to see whether the icon indicates locked or unlocked. A tweak might well do it.

Just a bit... I'm tweaking, but it's not the icon that indicates- it's the green check or the red x.  I figured that would be more obvious than changing the icon.

And done.  It does look better with the tweaks, IMO.  Let me know what you think.

Can someone post a shot of how it's supposed to work?
I must be missing how this works.
Followed the setup directions but not getting it.

your screenshot looks correct... and you're using the default SSC settings, i.e. let it name and save the image, correct?

Check in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming

Is there an ImgFloat.config?  And/or an ImgFloat.log?

And you are using the standard SSC settings, correct?  Plugins don't get called on save as, I found out.

the only other thing I can see is perhaps you have to put the executable path in quotes since you're in program files, i.e. the space in the file name?  When I originally tried it that way, it worked... but maybe you do need quotes around it.

If that doesn't work, just to troubleshoot, I'd suggest putting it somewhere other than in the program files directory, and using the portable config, and seeing if that works.

I have it work by dropping the file onto ImgFloat.exe, but that's all.
With the ImgFloat service running.

How do you start ImgFloat?

Just tried it on a totally different machine that hasn't had it on it at all.  You shouldn't need the quotes.

The sequence is as so (one of the reasons I haven't done the help yet is to see what kind of problems people have)
1. Invoke your screenshot.
2. Choose any option other than save as and follow through with that option (the file has to be saved before it can be shown)
3. The imgfloat window should appear.  The first time there will be a slight delay.

So you're saying that you drop a file onto imgfloat.exe and it runs and you see the image?  Then the program is working- it's something with how SSC is working with the image that it's not calling imgfloat at all.  We might need to ask mouser if there are any other cases where the external tool is not invoked.

How can I run it as a portable?
Or did I already by dropping the file on the exe.

you run it as portable by copying the config file from the portableconfig folder into the folder with the .exe.  This won't work in the program files directory, as I won't be able to write to it.  But you've answered the questions that needed answering- it's something to do with SSC calling it, not ImgFloat directly.  I dropped mouser a PM, and maybe he can shed some light or ask you the right questions about how you're invoking SSC.

cmpm: your configuration looks ok to me.
you can use the "post capture pop-up dialog" as you are doing it, and the tool should launch after you choose to save the image.

wraith -- i've noticed that the program seems to keep the image files open after displaying them -- which makes it impossible to delete them in SC.  this happens not just for the current file being shown but for the previously displayed files(!)  better would be if it read the image to display it and then close the file so it could be deleted/moved/etc.

another thing -- the download has no instructions at all in it -- it would be nice if you had a readme that said basically what you've said at top of this post, and include a url link to this post so if people download the zip from somewhere they will have some help.

I plan to do just that.  I haven't yet, as I've just gotten through with the features.

I've updated it so that it releases the image when the window is closed.  The other bit would take a bit of rework, so I'll look into doing that at a later time if people start to use it much. :)

I typed the command line in manually and it's working now.
Must have been something in the copy/paste operation.

Uploaded a new version that does not lock the image in question at all.

Sorry for the delay (working on a major computer castrophe here).
That is better for me — thanks a lot! I can't see the cross very well but I can see the check mark, and one indicator is enough.
It doesn't help that the background on my screens is grey  ;D  :o

ImgFloat archive has been updated with documentation, license, and readme.  Website has also been updated with documentation, and a link to the same is above.

sorry, couldn't find from the docs but is there a way to display the floating window in a fixed size? e.g. with a dimension of 320x480 or a ratio of 4:3.
