Stickies 6.0a released
« on: January 22, 2007, 01:38 PM »
A few of Us have been waiting for this.

Stickies is a electronic Post-it note software, a a very good one.
To many options to list. but a couple that people have been waiting for
  • Stickies can be attached to a window - they only appear on the desktop only when that application is active. That way, you can have a sticky which appears when you go to a web site, open a document, or browse to a folder on your computer, and then disappears again when you leave that place
  • Locked mode for stickies, meaning their contents cannot be changed
  • Option for whether clicking on one sticky also brings the others to the front - either all are brought forward, or just the one you clicked
http://www.zhornsoft.../stickies/index.html

Stickies is one of my 'must have' software. It gets installed on every machine I ever use, including friends.

Thanks
Brett
(Disclaimer. I am not connected in any way to this application.)

I just had to chime in here, I fricking love this program.  I have been using it for a while now and loved it, there were a couple of small issues but this program solved all my issues with every other sticky program I have ever tried, and that was a lot.  Every one had, what was for me, a big issue.  Something I just couldn't stand.  This one though everything I wanted minus a couple of small ones, this thing had.  Then with this version it answered my other small issues.  I can say that stickies v6 is everything I had wanted in a sticky program and more.  Loved it so much I donated once to the guy and am going to again for v6.

O...M...F...G!!!!

As if I have never heard of this before! Attached stickies is freaking sweet! Sending stickies over a network? whoa!

Thankfully Mouser put this in the newsletter!

Can't wait to make some skins for this.

Just joined yesterday, this is my first post here. And I'm using that one-time-only first post to say:

Yes, this is some pretty sweet software. It's worth at least ten times what he's charging for it.

Difficult to buy Stickies as it is totally free - and just gets better and better!!!

I haven't tried NoteZilla but it would have to do a heck of a lot more to justify $30 more than Stickies.

I'm not sure. Linux is fine and free, but I've chosen to pay for Windows anyway.
Many firewalls / anti virus / etc / etc are fine and free, but we bought other apps' instead, didn't we.

But I should have made myself clear:
At home I have Win2K, so at home I use Stickies, because NoteZilla is XP and Vista only.
I used to have NoteZilla's kid brother, Quick Notes Plus, and it sure is a fine app'. But one day I decided to swift to the new NoteZilla, only to realize it is XP/Vista only. I was so 'affronted' that I changed to Stickies, and found it to be better than Quick Notes Plus -

- but NoteZilla is even better, not "a heck of a lot more", just even better.
Their trial is free...  ;)

I totally agree with what Carol said. Stickies author is great and the program has some indispensable features. I can't wait to get network Stickies running over the web.

Welcome to the site Guatam, glad to have you stop by

Notezilla is definitely worth a try along with Stickies.. it's a wonderful situation when users have choices for both a great freeware tool and great shareware tool, and can choose the one that matches their needs best.

Member KenR should post here publicly the comments he told me when he tried Notezilla - he was quite in love with it and described his feelings in a very unusual way.  I'll let him describe it..

Stickies author is great and the program has some indispensable features.

He certainly is.  I tried running Stickies 6.0 on a Win98 laptop, only to get a series of error messages.  They related to only having an old version of the JET database engine, and I couldn't find the update recommended in the Stickies help file, only a newer one.  The author said he hadn't tested that, but asked if I'd like a copy of the one he had tested, and when I said yes please, sent it immediately.  Seems to work fine now   8)

I'll be interested to try the feature that lets you stick notes to particular programs, though really I'd like that extended so I could stick notes to particular Web pages.  I'll also be interested to see how Stickies operates.  The sticky notes program I use at present, Magic Notes (cheap shareware), makes each note a hidden window, which I don't much like.  If I have to search for other hidden windows, those get in the way.  If Stickies works from a database and the notes are hidden, I'd prefer that.   On the other hand, the alarm settings in Magic Notes are more obvious / easier to set, though neither program seems to have alarms quite as powerful as I'd like.

I thought you could stick stickies to a particular webpage?  The recognition is based off the window title.  I've only tried it while coding in the Excel VBA editor, but I stuck the note to only the project I wanted.  As long as your browser shows the website in the titlebar it should work.

Kevin

[Edit] I just did it with this page.  Make sure you make the note always on top!  A little playing around and you can probably make notes for domains as well (dependent on the website's title layouts).

That's a great feature! Thanks for pointing it out  :)

But Stickies has been crashing on me again for no obvious reason - maybe my system is too old  :(

XP & Vista only.

For me the difference is always about when the dev is "small enough" that he can sneak your feature in. So I am still a fan of Stickies because Tom Revell stuck "multi undo" in. That means that unlike before, if you place a text box, draw an arrow, place a text box, then the next morning go "what was I thinking??", you can Undo all three actions without wrecking your base image sticky. Not that hard of a concept but it wasn't possible until about last year in 2012.

So I'm a bit against the mood of "try X" if one super crushing killer feature isn't present in "that program" despite maybe X many cute little small improvements. Totally different Genre, I spent a year discovering Tree info software, but exactly two of the thirty candidates could export the notes properly into a universal web site, so the other twenty eight candidates just lost out no matter what little tweaks built in since I knew at the end of it all if the Killer Feature wasn't there, there wasn't really any point in bothering to learn the finesses!

So I'm all Stickies-Go! : )
