It would be nice to hear about online activities people use to interact with long distance friends or partners.  Anyone know of any good activities?

Well...being in that situation, I find communication is more important than ever.  Talking (SMS/Calls), sending little jokes, flirting randomly, or just having some fun on an online game together.  Also...I always find it fun, to send and receive pictures while walking around, just kinda "showing" what we are doing, makes it a little more "real" if you know what I mean :)

I would have to say Stephen really gave good advice on that. I have never been in a real long distance relationship so my advice would be rather noobish. I will say that honestly is always the key to any long lasting relationship.

It's not realtime, but I've been testing out with music collaboration.  i record something on my pc, send it to my friend, he records over it with those nifty zoom recorders, sends it back, etc.

But as the genius chess champion (and racist :() Bobby Fischer says:
Nothing is so healing as the human touch.
So for partners, I don't really enjoy any type of online activity.  It quickly becomes frustrating for me.

I know you like boardgames and such... there are several online boardgame sites and google hangout supports more than a few different games.  Have your game night, no matter what the distance!

Honesty, and openness are 2 seriously important factors in any relationship.  In a long distance relationship (which I am in), you should also have a LOT of trust for the other person, and never put too much pressure on them.

Also, along with that, you should always try to meet up as often as you can.  Communication, and mutual respect/love is one thing, but NOTHING can replace the feeling of holding your partner, or being next to them.  Yes, leaving them again will hurt, but...that will make you stronger :)

Here's what I immediately thought of:
http://www.carrsoft....e_the_flag_game.html

It was network multiplayer or "play-by-mail"

That took me back. Wonder if it still runs.

Drink until you forget the person.

Well, yes, but then that probably only induces a temporary forgetfulness, and when one sobers up, one has no memory of having temporarily forgotten the other person.    :o

Sometimes, one never forgets. For example, I'll never forget What's-his-name.

Ping Pong is good, though controlling the ball can be a bit difficult at times.

I wondered about that too - I mean, resurrecting this old thread with that somewhat jaundiced statement about "drinking to forget" an' all.

There is a lady called Nina Paley who apparently had a rough ride in a long-distance relationship, and after a baptism of fire she came through with a creative and beautiful animated movie that told a mythological story in a way that effectively parallelled her own life experiences in that difficult time. Me and my kids love to watch it. It's called Sita sings the blues
She's no slouch, and seems to have an interesting - albeit possibly cynical - handle on the history of the Middle-Eastern "theatre", as well: This Land is Mine.

I believe the thread was actually resurrected by a spammer, and the spam post got removed. But not before f0dder posted his response.

Bingo, Deo! - Otherwise I wouldn't have seen it.

Unless you're old or orphans, one will always end up missing friends or family, making the endeavour pointless.

Now, let's forget this thread :-)

I hadn't spotted it earlier. There seems to have been a rash of spam from @Otofbcop lately.
Still, I reckon that @f0dder was on to something with his comment about "drinking to forget". I used to do that - in fact I'm not sure, but I might still be doing it.
