Time lapse video (thread)
« on: July 06, 2013, 04:33 PM »
I thought there was already a timelapse video thread here but couldnt find any -
so have a look at this absolutely amazing video, with the option to post any others if you want

Oh yeah, there's the option to run it at "Original" quality (4k?), or see it on vimeo

Wow. That's amazing! Interesting how at about 3:15 the trees ripple in the wind like a grassy lawn. Thanks for sharing! :-*

Cruise ship getting a remake - and an extension :tellme:
it's hard to understand if they just cut it apart, or was it desigened to be extensible. Worth watching full screen anyways.

Here's a stunning landscape / night-sky time lapse video (up to 4k quality)

Photography Tom Lowe
Music Nigel John Stanford

Apparently above is excerpts from a film -- Timescapes -- which also includes slow-motion photography.
Two trailers below:

https://www.youtube..../watch?v=EgKXcQ9PLuc
https://www.youtube..../watch?v=e-GYrbecb88

Not so gone on the slow-motion stuff (the music is apt but doesnt move me either) but the time-lapse stuff is really stunning.

The first time lapse photography I remember seeing was in the George Pal version of The Time Machine

I saw it in the theater when it was first released and was totally fascinated by it(I must have been 9 years old.)  I remember the film got an Oscar for Special Effects.

Edit:  Sorry.  Thought I had the YouTube for it but it wants $2.99.  So I changed the link to the IMDB entry.  :(

I found this:

youtube link etc..

I don't know about the charging bit.  But the clip you found does have the bit with the apples growing on the trees.  That's what first grabbed my attention.

Instead of the mannequin they should have done the dress changing bit with Yvette Mimieux.  But not to be expected in 1960 unfortunately.  :)

You probably found the link to the Google Play Store version to rent/buy the full movie. They're hosted on YouTube and you can find them there if you look in the right (or wrong) places.

I had a good 16x9 DVD of The Time Machine.  I see now on DDDVD that it's been repackaged as BluRay.  I'm curious how good it looks.  Turner is repackaging many of the classic scifi stuff it seems.

At 1:45 and 2:37, the ocean looks similar to the banded pattern of Jupiter.

This one comes in two versions:

  • 1. very impressive night-sky footage, great music and editing, and -
  • 2. the same video - but they 'fix' the sky and stars, and we see the earth move around the sky

well worth watching both

I'd seen an older version of this a while back - this smoother and higher resolution. Very impressive storm timelapse... looks a bit like a ufo

Thanks tomos. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

YouTube has a large collection of royalty free music which you can add to your videos. Since the timelapse was silent, I just picked a track that was approximately the same length as the video. That track is called The Darkness by MK2.

I did a search for it just now and found it here:

I have more timelapse videos of my work from other game jams and similar things here:

Cross-posting from Hyperlapse thread - my next post (below) has video from the creator of LRTimelapse which software is mentioned in this quote:

I am shocked - shocked I say! - to see that there appear to be no previous threads on the whole "hyperlapse" thing (according to the Search at least). This is a variation of timelapse where the camera actually moves *large* distances (as opposed to the small dolly shots of most timelapse) while maintaining (relatively) smooth motion, creating an amazing combination of realistic and surreal imagery and motion. It really just has to be seen to be appreciated. This is an excellent introduction to what can be achieved:
https://vimeo.com/102841196
That vimeo video is really incredible.  I'd be curious how difficult it was to get it to look like that, and what kind of equipment was used.  Looks amazing.

I came across this description:
I had to import and customize the NEF files before I
equalized them with the great LR-TIMELAPSE from Gunther Wegner. (http://www.lrtimelapse.com/)
(Adobe Lightroom is necessary)
The observed jpeg had then to be droped into virtual dub and were rendered as avi.
When this was done, I had to stabilize the sequences manually frame by frame (AE motion tracker) and rendered each of them in 3 different sizes: (4928x3264 pixels, 1920x1080 pixels, 1024x768 pixels)
Last but not least the snippets were edited fitting to the beautiful title "Diving Through The Blue" by the respectable composer and musician Valentin Boomes.
from this video -
https://vimeo.com/50238512

Tbh I dont understand half of that description - but it does sound like a lot of work. Surprised the stabilizing has to be done manually. Also not sure what exactly the LR-Timelapse software does.

They seem to generally use full-frame cameras - I guess if you're going to put all that work in, you may as well start with a quality image.

A lot of time-lapses are too quick for my taste -- I find they end up being a bit jerky, feeling hurried with too little time spent on each scene.

This one got the balance perfect imo, [edit] along with wonderful photography and editing [/edit]

Get dreamy!

This one is Hong Kong - all images are mirrored, once, or sometimes twice to give a kaleidoscope effect.
I loved it
