As I was getting up to date with my list of feeds, I saw two videos posted in one of the few blogs about design I'm suscribed to, that looked particularly interesting judging by their description.

The first one is amazingly cool, I love it. Called "Western Spaghetti", it shows a recipe for spaghetti with very particular ingredients.

The second one is a music video of a song by Oren Lavie^w called "Her Morning Elegance". The video shows that elegance, and the song is not bad.

This could turn out to be a dangerous thread for me, since I adore stop-motion. (from gumby, to rankin-bass holiday specials, to growing flowers, and slurms...and everything in between!)

Some really superb stop-motion dream sequences can be found in the film The Science of Sleep. Nice little romantic film for a quiet evening.

Amazing what can be done with some cardboard and creativity. Not gimmicky either. The stop-motion segments aren't just there to be clever. They mesh logically with the story and the main character.

Her Beautiful Ideas, by Guggenheim Grotto, is an interesting music video that combines "sketch pad animation" with stop-motion techniques to tell a common but sad little story. Worth a viewing.

Reza Dolatabadi created "Khoda" from >6000 paintings.
The idea is, wherever you pause the film you see a painting.
This took two years to complete.

I´d say it´s a difference to paint each frame with oil colors. The movie is impressive.

Sure oil paints take longer, but it's not really a unique idea to take a lot of drawings/sketches/paintings and show them in order to produce an animation.

Perhaps the point is that each 'frame' is intended to stand as a piece of art in its own right. While it might be argued that this is true of an individual Disney cel., my own view would be that there's a considerable difference.

Khoda is a very impressive piece of work from the visual perspective.

But I'm not sure I'm getting what it all means.

The last one has been all over the web during the last days. It boggles the mind to think how much work went into it (looks like everything was done by a single person), and the results are outstanding.

Well... it's been a while since somebody posted to this topic so I thought I'd start it up again with some new stuff that's been making the StoMo rounds.

Here's a clever video using Post-It notes as the raw material for a "pixel-art" animation. It's called Deadline, and it's up on YouTube. Fascinating to see it in motion. (The stills below do not do it justice.) There's also a companion "making of" vid available if you want to get a look behind the scenes.

FYI: it took 3 months to plan, 4 days to shoot and 6000+ Post-Its. By my calculations, that's approximately $1,100 just to buy the Post-Its. You could score a full copy of Adobe CS for less than that!
