A former boss of mine cleaned his PC's at least once a year with an air pump intended for balloons. That thing was not too big (so you could put it in whatever angle necessary) and more than enough force to blow away any dust.

When I was searching for some kind of air blower one guy on a forum even suggested an inflated balloon with a straw in it to direct the air flow.

edit: now that I know what to search on, I see them for less than $3. Trouble is the $9 shipping. :(
Oh well. I'll see how the bulbs work out.

edit2: Ok! I found a plastic sport pump at Quill.com.  $2.53 free shipping!!  :)
I can always use the air bulbs to clean my cameras. :)

You might get a charge out of that but it's a crow, not a raven lunatic!

I once used a brand new air brush to clean inside a PC case (one that had not touched paint yet).  :D

Also considered using a bicycle pump, but I don't have the third hand that would be necessary to do that.

I've had a few ideas.  Unfortunately I don't think I'd ever see the reward. It's like when you try to convince your boss the way he wants to do it won't work.  This other way is much better. For months, years the guy won't listen.  Then when it's apparent he has no choice but to go with what's effective, it's "Now Smedley!! Why didn't you think of that? That's your job! Do I have to do everything?"  and you have to say "Great idea you had there boss" if you want to remain employed.

But when I was a kid and had a driver job, I had to fetch this Ad Copy guy from the airport to do some campaign for our company.  The guy was a very cool down to earth dude. He was a frustrated novelist.  He told me he didn't have the talent to flesh out a full sized novel.   But this ad copy crap was easy and lucrative. But like anything else, "it's not what ya' know, it's who ya' know."  :)

Inside the cases isn't that big a deal. But I'm glad the pump was suggested. Besides the desktop I have a bunch of twirly gig CD case holders for my jazz CDs.  It's nearly impossible to dust 'em. I'm gonna' blow the dust off with the pump. Maybe get myself some of those dust filter masks for when I do the big clean.  The air conditioner should pull most of the dust out of the air if I arrange to have to going during the dust off.  But I'll start with the desktop and see how it goes.

That sounds vaguely familiar. I must have seen that guy do his act years ago.
Either that or it was another comic, 'cause my memory is the guy claimed to know Pop.  :)

Heh heh. I don't know if I could pick one.  But I do have to admit in some ways I envy Snuffles from Quick Draw McGraw.
As long as he's in doggie bisquits, he don't need nuthin' else.

^Snuffles - a Hannah-Barbera character. Ultimate tracking hound so long as you fed his biscuit jones.

I personally think they borrowed the concept from a Max Fleischer character known as Eugene the Jeep. The Jeep was also a marvelous tracking "dog" which could walk through walls and other barriers since it was actually a 4th dimensional creature that manifested in our time-space continuum as something that vaguely resembled an odd-looking yellow dog. It ate orchids exclusively - and had to be paid with a bowl of them to eat at the completion of its assignments.

cartoon10l213.jpg

In the August 9, 1936, strip, headlined "Wha's a Jeep?" Popeye asks Professor Brainstine what exactly a Jeep is. He gets the following response:

“    A Jeep is an animal living in a three dimensional world—in this case our world—but really belonging to a fourth dimensional world. Here's what happened. A number of Jeep life cells were somehow forced through the dimensional barrier into our world. They combined at a favorable time with free life cells of the African Hooey Hound. The electrical vibrations of the Hooey Hound cell and the foreign cell were the same. They were kindred cells. In fact, all things are, to some extent, relative, whether they be of this or some other world, now you see. The extremely favorable conditions of germination in Africa caused a fusion of these life cells. So the uniting of kindred cells caused a transmutation. The result, a mysterious strange animal.    ”

When asked if he had any further questions, Popeye, totally unenlightened by this explanation, repeated, "Wha's a Jeep?"

Like he said, WHAT"S A JEEP????

In the old cartoons with the real animation they slyly inserted some stuff to keep the adults amused. I guess because it's reaction to food they could get away with the Snuffles routine.  But if Snuffles isn't having an orgasm I don't know what he's doing!!!  I remember one WB cartoon where Daffy Duck is selling insurance door to door.  He figures to rip off Porky Pig.  Something happens to Porky's tree house that should be covered by the policy.  Daffy quickly points out that according to the fine print Porky is only covered for that if it's Feb. 30, a herd of elephants tromp through the tree house, and 6 or 7 other stipulations.  Of course as soon as he says that, the calender flips to Feb. 30, the elephants storm through the tree house, and the 6 or 7 other unlikely events happen so that Daffy has to pay up. I'm sure no kids under 12 had a clue, but it was amusing to watch as an adult. :)

I just got the Sport Pump.  Works faster and easier than the vac.  Not perfect. But for $3 I can't complain. I can chase out most of the dust bunnies tangled up in my docking station wires. Beats moving that stuff around for sure.  :)

Last night I watched this documentary, Reel Injun about the way Native Americans were portrayed in films and on TV. One of the clips they showed was the Injun Joe cartoon character. But the worst Warner Bros. cartoon clip was Bugs Bunny picking off Indians with a rifle as they attacked a fort. Each time he shot one he drew a line to keep count.  Then he shoots one and only draws half a line(I forget if the chalk broke or whatever) and he recovers his cool by saying "that one was only a half breed!"

Oh man!!  Yeah, it's wild seeing the blatant racism in those cartoons.  Unfortunately, one of my favorite minor characters is in that Injun Joe cartoon, the name is "Wagon Heels"...his name is Sloppy Moe, a little whacky blue guy.

blackface, asians...man...i'm thinking now of this one, a plane is flying over the african continent and they did some CRAZY racist thing, i don't quite remember exactly, but it was whoa.
