That is adorable!  :-*

I think if I had that, I'd get the urge to decorate it at Christmas time, hanging a little wreath on it.

yes it is :)

around here, old outhouses/toilets usually had a heart shape cut in the door (I have *no* idea why...)
I dont suppose you've any idea of the origin of the image Stephen?

That's an easy to answer question...light and ventilation.

but the heart shape... I guess it's sort of like spraying air-freshener after :D

PS I meant the origin of the image (but was curious about the use of a heart shape too!) - will edit previous post.

thanks deo, doesnt look like the original is there..

Following up on the heart shape:
http://missourifolkl...n.edu/outhouses.html
The simplest explanation is that the cutout was one of several simple icons used for ornament: ornamentation of the necessary is a means of assuring oneself that things have gone beyond the level of mere necessity and subsistence. In Germany, a heart-shaped cutout is more traditional -- the usage is clearly visual euphemism, i.e., putting a pleasant symbol on something intrinsically unpleasant. In this Polish example, the heart-tradition seems to have opened an associative pathway to another series, based on playing-cards ...

(The plug & socket could be from anywhere between Spain and Russia I think.)

Most all outhouses I've ever seen had a crescent moon on the door.  Never saw one with a heart.  This looks more like a closet where makeout sessions are held, you know, plug it in and all.  lol

Hearts and crescent moons on an outhouse? Wouldn't a log make more sense? Errr... actually, a moon does make sense. :P And the heart would make more sense if it were upside-down. :P

If you're going to moon at all it might just as well be in an outhouse… in fact better if it were.

Ok for today a tiny little "gadget", a Weekly Pill Organizer, used for Vitamins:

http://www.amazon.co...minder/dp/B0000537JQ

I have two of these that I fill up with vitamins (Vitamin C,B,Calcium, etc.) ahead of time, keeping one out on the bathroom counter at a time.  Before these I never could get in the habit of taking my vitamins.

Mini speakers like http://www.amazon.co...rds=capsule+speakers

Not the best sound of course but it's decent enough for occasional, portable use.
Powered/charged via USB. Uses 3.5mm connection.

So, a friend got my ipad2 smashed up in december, in drunken stupor - we were using it for music (via spotify) at an xmas party, and it slipped out of his hands - bother. It still works, but has a bunch of cracks in the screen, and the glass has started cracking off in one of the corners. So I'm not going to be dragging that along and make matters worse. I'm considering getting the screen replaced, but the places I've found so far were a bit expensive. Tried snapping some pictures of the broken screen, but couldn't get the angle/flash right, so the cracks weren't visible >_<

So, the logical thing was of course to buy a new tablet. It seemed silly to buy a new ipad2, and ipad3 was out of the question because it's even heavier than the already heavy ipad2. I considered an ipad mini - same specs as ipad2 but smaller... seemed interesting, smaller screen means better pixel density. Still, the resolution itself (1024x768) is slightly small, and sometimes the ipad2 feels slightly slow (complex websites, mostly). And then there's all that about crApples extremely closed ecosystem, Calibre probably not working on iOS6, et cetera. Decided to check out the competition, and ASUS' Nexus 7 looked interesting - higher resolution (1280x800), much more CPU juice, a clean Android (without any of the "value added" junk), and DKK1254 (USD226) cheaper than the iPad mini...

So, after playing around a bit with a colleague's N7 this friday, I went out and bought one after work. So far it's been a really nifty experience. Back when I bought my iPad2, the android tablets felt cheap - not the hipster-lame "zomg this is sooo gaudy" kind of cheap, but the "I'm afraid this plastic will break" cheap, they cost about the same as the iPads, and were sluggish as hell. The N7 GUI is extremely smooth, it feels sturdy, and I by far prefer the soft plastic back to the iPad aluminium - it's nicer to the touch, especially in cold wintertime Scandinavia :). Oh, and you're not stuck with Chrome, you can install firefox (and adblock!) if you want to. FREEDOM!

So, here's a few action pics:
nexus-01.jpgGadget WEEKENDS nexus-02.jpgGadget WEEKENDS nexus-03.jpgGadget WEEKENDS nexus-04.jpgGadget WEEKENDS

The screen is slightly small for reading PDFs, but it works OK - and the higher resolution (and PPI) definitely makes them look better.

Stretching the definition of a gadget somewhat but...

I just installed one of these dual-bay SSD enclosures. It's really handy to pop out one SSD and stick in another. A nice, clean way to change OS's.

My post for today is an electric trash can.

I have one of these -- a big 18 gallon one, and I'm quite fond of it.  It looks nice and it keeps in odors and is hands free.

Now I have to say it's not without some annoyances and quirks, but after a few years of using it I'm still quite satisfied.  I'm not sure I would want one in rooms other than kitchen, because there is a slight delay in it opening and it wants to close soon after.  But for kitchen messes, not having to use your hands is a great benefit.

There are a bunch of different models and I have no reason to recommend one over the other.  Choosing your size is probably the most important decision to make.

Here's an amazon search page listing many:

How do you open it then? I assume there's some sensor you need to trigger?

My kitchen trash can is old-fashioned... hands-free foot-pedal :)

Yeah there's a sensor on the lid -- when you stand in front of it, it triggers.  Battery (or ac adapter) powered.

I had a rough week. An utterly insane workload ran me into the ground as I rushed to get it done with no time to do anything except eat some crappy instant food, which I'm not used to. Anyways, I ran myself sick into the ground, but have finally managed to pull myself up a bit and got back to cooking some food with some actual nutrition yesterday and today. Which brings me to my wonderful little gadget that saved me oh so much time and made cooking so much easier and faster and made me feel better and wonderful and rainbows shot out of the electric sockets into my eyes filling me with psychadelic mystical powers of getting ready to cook and eat and blather on mindlessly about nothing in particular that you would or would not be interested in reading or possibly even viewing as in viewing video and opposed to viewing images as in still images from a camera or more specifically usually a product web site or...

:P

I decided to make a quick video of it instead of a stock picture. (Cooking Thai curry tonight! :D NOM NOM NOM~!)

It's a simple 1-touch, hands free (mostly) can opener. Pretty simple.

To tell the truth, I have no idea why I bought it. I think it's just because it has this novelty factor to it and I love gadgets and mechanical stuff and snakes and snails and puppy dog tails... ;D

Cute.

Here's another one from me, that I've written about before, the Dymo label printer.

They make a few different models -- I have the cheap old one (I guess closest new model is the model450 for $100 but you can probably find older ones on ebay cheap).  It's extremely convenient and easy to use.

I'd recommend this to anyone who manually writes envelope address labels more than a couple times each month.

The Do Not Call List just sucks, so I just bought one of these....

Call-Blocker.jpg

Blocked calls are hungup on after Caller ID is received
Invited calls ring through like normal with Caller ID displayed on phone
3-Line Display shows Name, Number, Time, Date, Total and New Calls
Wildcarding of selective area codes, exchanges and trunk groups
80 memory slots for blocking whole area codes or single numbers
