More Dystopian Novel junk:

Revealed: how the FBI coordinated the crackdown on Occupy

New documents prove what was once dismissed as paranoid fantasy: totally integrated corporate-state repression of dissent

"...The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, in a groundbreaking scoop that should once more shame major US media outlets (why are nonprofits now some of the only entities in America left breaking major civil liberties news?), filed this request. The document – reproduced here in an easily searchable format – shows a terrifying network of coordinated DHS, FBI, police, regional fusion center, and private-sector activity so completely merged into one another that the monstrous whole is, in fact, one entity: in some cases, bearing a single name, the Domestic Security Alliance Council. And it reveals this merged entity to have one centrally planned, locally executed mission. The documents, in short, show the cops and DHS working for and with banks to target, arrest, and politically disable peaceful American citizens...."

For an unclassified document, it's rather odd that it is incredibly heavily redacted. Many areas that are clearly marked "unclassified" are redacted. You can see "unclassified" followed by redacted white space and then immediately followed by "unclassified".

For an unclassified (REDACTED), it's (REDACTED) that it is incredibly heavily (REDACTED). Many (REDACTED) that are (REDACTED) are (REDACTED). You can (REDACTED) followed by (REDACTED) white (REDACTED) and then immediately followed by (REDACTED).

Calling it a "Day of Rage" is inflammatory and terrorist talk.
They should arrest themselves.
And arrest the 'private sector' like OPEC.

I don't mind too much being spied on, if they tell the truth.
But it never turns out that way.
The info attained is turned to use by the private sector for their own gain.

Honestly, they are confused on who the private sector is.

^^ Iceland is a fantastic story. If you remember back, there was a huge hubba-baloo about Iceland going bankrupt, and then it just entirely dropped out of the news. Apparently it's not newsworthy when a country throws the banksters out of power and tells their creditors that they'll have to eat the gambling debt themselves. Iceland's recovery could be a model for others to follow.

Judge Rules Against Texas Teen Who Refused to Wear SmartID Badge
In a closely watched case, a federal judge today ruled against a high school sophomore who refused to wear a student ID embedded with a radio frequency chip that tracks students' movement on campus.

A Blight on the Constitution: Congress Approves More Warrantless Wiretapping
As 2012 came to a close, the Senate shamefully approved a five-year extension to the FISA Amendments Act, an unconsitutional law that openly allows for warrantless surveillance of Americans' overseas communications. Despite a powerful speech by Senator Ron Wyden explaining the privacy dangers and the lack of oversight in the extended law, https://www.eff.org/...antless-surveillance the Senate rejected all the proposed amendments that would have brought a modicum of transparency and oversight to the government's activities.

I've been following that for a while. The judge is simply flat out wrong. It's disgraceful, but par for the course at this point.

Very minute. If you take a scientific measurement, you can discover it. My opinion at the moment is that the Dems are *slightly* less crazy than the Repubs. (I don't know the units for Political craziness!) It was the Repubs who a year and a half ago engineered these series of budget "crises" (despite it never mattering while they were in office!) and Joe Biden who got *something* done  (for disappointingly small amounts of something, I get it, but better than the year and a half of zero!) Sometimes ya gotta take the Lesser of Two Weevils. Or Evils. Or something. Even a crap bill is better than silence and the Repubs went for total broke and lost.

Sometimes the republicans, sometimes the democrats.  Depends on the political climate at the time and who's votes they're trying to get at the time....  Tis why I'm an independent....

These days, big money are the lawmakers and politicians.
The ones writing laws to spy on the public (private citizens-remember them) and infringe on privacy.
With maybe a few exceptions.

I have a few ideas to fix it, but they won't happen in my lifetime, I think.
Like, no more lobbyists in the capital at all. Keep them local. If any.
Local is where they were voted in.

From the Australian Dept. of Feeling Safe:

Spy agency ASIO wants powers to hack into personal computers
"A spokesman for the Attorney-General's Department said it was proposing that ASIO be authorised to ''use a third party computer for the specific purpose of gaining access to a target computer''.

^^ Good grief! That's insane! What happens when the attack gets traced back to your computer and you get charged? Not well thought through...

Yeah, that's just itching for comedic delivery.
"Repeat after me: I feel safe knowing the Australian Government is hacking into my PC!" LOUDER!! Say it again!

Let's not even *begin* to get into how they think they'll only contain it to their own citizens! IP address? Mandatory app to install?
