Ok... fair warning... you may very well pee your pants laughing at this... So, consider yourself warned~!

Ready?

No turning back now...

Man arrested at Olympics cycling event for not smiling. ;D

BWAHAHAHAHAH~!

http://www.prisonpla...ns-cycling-race.html

A spectator seeks an exoneration after he claims he was arrested for “not smiling” during the 2012 London Olympic Men’s Cycling Road Race.

Mark Worsfold, 54, a martial-arts trainer who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, wants a “letter of exoneration” after what he claims was a gross over-reaction on the part of Surrey Police.

Worsfold explains, “I was sitting minding my own business…Before I knew anything the police grabbed me off this seven-foot wall, threw me to the floor and cuffed me so all I saw of the cycle race was between the feet of people from the pavement.”

Due to his degenerative disorder, Worsfold says his face can seem expressionless.

More links in that article.

But man... It's just so nutty that I can't help but smile and laugh.

It reminds me of the people being arrested in North Korea for not weeping enough over the death of their "Dear Leader".

Who needs fiction when reality so much more entertaining~! :P BWAHAHAHAHAHA~!

Yes... I'm still laughing - hysterically!

Man arrested at Olympics cycling event for not smiling.

I've actually been hassled for that during orientation by the head of security at a previous job. Why it was such a big deal that I smile for a ID badge photo I've not a clue...but the security guy went friggin ballistic about it. Hell he didn't shut-up until I pointed out that Stoicism was a religion...so I had a right to not be grinning like an idiot.

I quit the job a few months later.

I used to run into that all the time. School yearbook photo.  Driver's license photo. Finally I realized it had nothing to do with me. The guy taking the photo didn't want me to make his work look bad.  Just like the short order cook at the diner gets pissed if I don't clean the plate. Trouble is there aren't many diners around where I actually want to eat.  Can't say "who are you my dad?" since I might get banned(or even punched.) Amazing what fragile egos people have.  Me, I wouldn't give a damn if the customer licked the plate clean as long as he paid for the meal.

What's really annoying are photographers who wait until I blink before they trip the shutter.   :wallbash:

So which version of Batman's Joker makeup passes muster?

Article goes on to say that he was actually arrested because they thought he was with a nearby group of protesters. I'm not sure why he start talking about the smiling thing - maybe the police took it as meaning he was only there to protest?
Unless I'm missing something, I cant understand why the writer takes that slant as well - I guess they're hoping we wont actually read the article too closely - or if we do that we please dont really care that the title is pretty much BS :-\

PrisonPlanet goes down another notch in my estimation:
It's got good intentions, but the style and accuracy are just too trashy-tabloid for me.

Good catch. I supposed I am mildly annoyed at myself that I am falling for the clickbait titles lately. This is the third time on a DC news item I've done that. :(

They're profiling people looking for anyone that is too nervous/properly engaged with the event/etc., so he got targeted. And as usual the profiling got a bit out-of-hand. The fuzz deserve the ridicule and should just deal with it, learn from it, and move on ... They have no defensible position IMO.

The guardian has found a unique way to get past restrictions on coverage of the Olympics.  A cool way to watch and give no money to the sponsors or the IOC.

You should be the journalist SJ - you've explained it a lot more articulately than any of the articles above ;)

Very cute!

But I didn't get the fencing thing... Guess you need to see the actual match to know what it's about.

Maybe I'm a little slow but it just occurred to me that the Olympic mascots chosen kind of epitomise the direction of the UK society.

Is that the mascot? Sorry. I haven't been paying attention to the Olympics (other than for a few silly headlines while reading the news).

One of their various disguises,  (there are two of these things) .

The single eye represents a camera - or if you were of a conspiracy mindset,  the proliferation of CCTV wielded by a police state.

Just saying ....

I'd put a link in to what they're supposed to be but it's too painful to do from a 2.4" screen.

Like I said before... "off" in an H. P. Lovecraft sense of the word...

I seriously thought that it was just a joke about the police state and the Olympics...

I didn't get it at first... I thought the dot was supposed to be the nose, with the eyes being under the hat for something more plushie looking.  Then I finally realized that it's an *eye*....!  That's creepy!

That's creepy!

That was one of the responses by people :)

Supposed to represent the digital age we live in.....or, (if we switch to conspiracy mindset), is it to indoctrinate the target audience, (5-15y.o.), to the fact there's always someone watching thereby increasing acceptance of Big Brother?

...

That reminds me of an old joke(I try to use those in the Public Domain(tm) since I can't afford royalties) :)
...

Back when the hijackings of American flights were usually to divert the plane to Cuba, they came up with Sky Marshals to counter the threat. These were non-uniformed law enforcement types on the lookout for suspicious passengers.

The joke goes that due to an administrative error, two Sky Marshals were assigned to the same flight. They reported each other to the Stewardess(as they were called back in the 60s) as the most suspicious passenger on board.

(I think Archie Bunker had a simpler solution. Instead of all the bureaucratic red tape just have someone pass out pistols to the passengers as they get on board, and another guy collect them at the destination.)

I found this interesting:

BBC One controller Danny Cohen said the Games had been seen by the "largest TV audiences since the pre-digital age".
