OK, I'm excited...
I have a new website, I have a nice mic setup here at my computer, I have a Skype account, I have live streaming configured,tested, and good to go. So how about a live DC talk show? What would we talk about? How would it be scheduled? Who needs to be involved?

I just have a couple of requirements for now:
--cursing IS allowed, this is not for kids
--Opinions are welcome, passionate statements are welcome...you can be offensive with your positions, but no personal attacks or unreasonable anger
--Be willing to LISTEN to different and offensive opinions without harming yourself psychologically
--be funny if you can be, everyone loves a good laugh

As you can see, I want this to be about honesty, not about how smart we are. What's REALLY on our minds?

I remember we tried a podcast years ago, but this should be better since it's live and interactive...and I'll be playing devil's advocate most of the time. Nothing personal, but my goal will be to try to provoke you (in a nice, funny way hopefully...I will have to learn this "skill", so I'll probably go too far sometimes).

Hehehe - you're not the only one that's failed there~!

Here's just a quick suggestion/recommendation -- see about coming up with a loose format to work around. e.g. 2 hosts and then invite on a guest or 2 or 3. In an audio format, 3 or 4 people is about the maximum that people can keep track of. If you do video, then it's an entirely different game.

To continue your topic derailment, yes, DC Talk is pretty awesome. Been a fan for around 20 years now. First heard them in 91-92 time frame when a military buddy of mine introduced me to their music.

Getting back OT, it could prove interesting. It has been tried before, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be tried again.

Answer is, SOPA is such a burgeoning cauldron of seething evil that absolutely anything falls under its provisions. To "duck and hide by only talking about narrow software" would be a crime of silence to ignore the biggest censorship attempt in X years.

With apologies for minor provincialism, "Most Actors/Actresses" are of "blah heritage". "Grew up in NY of Italian/Germanic-Hungarian heritage" - basically a recipe for those dark looks.

Deo makes an excellent point. Maybe something like the Linux Action Show does? It's broadcast live on Sundays. And the podcast download is available shortly after the live show.

Would be very cool to do that. Interviewing coders about their approach to projects, choice of tools, development practices, etc. would be a terrific addition to DC. And maybe help it get a little better back to its original concept. Which might not be a bad thing since you can get good sociopolitical discussions in a lot of other places (although the caliber of the discussions and the level civility is unusually high here) but real grass roots hands-on coder shop talk is pretty rare. Most of the good code sites limit themselves to tightly focused tech Q&As - but don't have much on design or approach. I can't speak for everybody, but I'm personally much more interested in why coders decided to do something than I am in what they did, or how they did it. Coding recipes can be found all over the web. Coding design discussions are much less common.

Start with Renegade.

Ok...yes, this whole setup is taking a lot more time than I expected. But I'm also probably adding bells and whistles that aren't necessary...but I want to. Yes, i do plan on recording it and I'm going to try to get Stephen to be the first guest. He is a NANY participant!

I'm with 40 on the programming talk. I would love to pick the brain of developers. Only...I probably wouldn't be as polite as 40:

Me: "Why the F&^% is this button all the over to the right??!! What were you thinking?? You're the reason why things like SOPA are happening!!"

Just for the record, I'm nowhere near as nice as SB makes me out to be. (Go ask any vendor or project partner I've ever had to lock horns with.) Maybe I don't cuss all that much (I save obscenities for very special situations) but I'm not known as being someone who suffers fools gladly.

P.S. Stephen is a good choice too! If he interviews even half as well as he posts - I'm all ears.

So it sounds like the schedule will be:
1) Stephen
2) Renegade
3) ?

We'll see how it goes. I like the idea of having the show be partly getting to know the people here, partly an outlet for me to goof off, and partly some techno talk.
