After repeated warnings, a woman in SA 'chose' to respond to the Absa Bank Phishing scam email! She was on TV bemoaning her account being wiped out -  when will they learn!

I saw a great bumper sticker:  "God must love stupid people.  He made so many of them!"

Yes, but it's their own stupid choices that get them into trouble!  ;)

Hilarious :) - it's on slashdot as well... what a moron than Craig/Randall guy is. The /. post about Ars rebutting the crap article is here, and the post about the original article is one of those few situations where the /. comments are actually relatively intelligent and well-informed.

I have won the lottery in the UK so many times {although I NEVER play any lottery} but just could not bring myself to respond to the "Official" email address like [email protected]

Yeah, good thing that you did not respond, because commercial domain for UK is .co, not .com

I dont think this is stupidity - it's ignorance - these are mostly people who have never learned (in the sense of being taught, but maybe in every sense?!) about using a computer.
(....)
There was a vid a while back somewhere asking people what a browser was (prompted by google's new os) that was fun - found it http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=o4MwTvtyrUQ

You're right, Tom; Ignorance, is the word. I received a lot of IT lessons back in 1979-1980 way before the Internet was invented. When I many years later got both a computer and a Internet connection myself, I was sadly surprised to see how little I understood of what was going on!

In general, people learn how to just get by; they know nothing about the basics, because no one teaches them. I too   once again   had to become a pupil.

Edited: Also, the same people who don't know what a browser is, are most likely the same people that don't understand the difference between what is situated at the Internet versus on their computer.
--------

The final picture on the video from your link:

8%browser.gif

Edited further:

to browse:
graze, pasture; leaf through a book, peruse a book; wander and look at one's leisure;

There's another issue here besides the fact that most people arent interested in their computer that much to learn about it, they just want to write and email, chat with friends and return to their lives.

The real issue here is the power of google - what most people see, use and know of the internet is what google chooses to show them on the top 3 links on the first page. An algorithm totally secret, commercially motivated, and one that really can make or break a site

Even facebook could be affected if google chose

WOW. Just.... wow. OK, so the method of typing in a site's name or even URL into Google to find it, I get that it's common, and maybe it's not totally retarded.
Actually, it's not retarded at all. If you don't have a bookmark for a site, it makes sense to Google it. This way you don't accidentally get a phishing site because you didn't get the URL exactly right. This is particularly true when the most reasonable address has been cybersquated by some dirtbag.

What IS retarded is to just click on the first hit without actually reading it -- and not using bookmarks.

Most people don't care about computers or computing or learning about same. They want to play games, tweet, twitter, facebook, chat, date, check out a little porn, maybe pay a bill or two  -  that's why we have Windows7, now, isn't it? -  so they don't waste time learning what they don't need to know.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them stupid, just disinterested, and very funny!

Stupid? Really stupid?

Hmmm...

It's really more a matter of: "There's my way -- and the wrong way."

Isn't it?

Or, as Isaiah 55:8 puts it:  "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways..."

Hey, we can't all be really right all of the time.  ;)

Can we?

See, there's all these different realities 'out there'. Those realities intersect at various points. [If they didn't we'd never be able to communicate.]

So what is stupid in one person's reality is actually quite sensible in another's.

[And what witness A sees is never quite the same as witness B etc etc.]

All a matter of perception -- really!  :D

If you're going round in circles then you're cutting corners.

It's really more a matter of: "There's my way -- and the wrong way."

I think you meant to post that in a discussion thread about Apple and Steve Jobs. :P :D

But seriously, how stupid do you need to be to walk into a 7-Eleven and complain because you can't find the women's clothing section? Or go to McDonalds and wonder why they don't have steak tartar on the menu?

Both sites are clearly labeled as to what they are at the top. You have to be blind not to see/read the big print.

Nah. Most Some people are just morons.

What have they done now. It's not simple enough for me to figure out.

Does any more need to be said?

Well, there are (at the moment) 49 pages of that kind of drivel with 415 posts. Here are 2 commentaries (posts 414 and 415):

You are all fantastic people. Each and every one of you is a gorgeous, unique, mind-boggling contribution to the human race. I thank God that such people are alive.

415 has a point there as that kind of stuff really is very entertaining to read, in a Jerry Springer kind of way.

If it really is just a matter of perception, then some people need to lay off the psychedelic hallucinogens. :P

Some very interesting statistics in that Betanews article.

My conclusion? DonationCoder should be renamed to FacebookLogin.com. ;)
