mouser, between "capturescreeen" and "capturedesktop", can you add another option like captureprimaryscreen or capturemonx, where 'x' is the number of the monitor to be captured?

Sorry for the late posting about the update..

v1.33.01 - Nov 28, 2015
  • [MinorFeature] Added -escapequit option. If user hits escape while doing a region or window capture, the program will exit (rather than return to minicap interface); should be used in conjunction with -save and -exit to prevent minicap interface from ever showing.

Love the app but I have a couple of suggestions:

  • There should be an option to capture the mouse pointer
  • If I'm using the command line then any generated error output should go to stderr with maybe an option to also display it in a GUI, either way the program shouldn't be left running on error, it should automatically exit (or again make the behaviour optional).

Wow I can't believe I don't have an option for whether to capture the mouse cursor/pointer.. The ability is in the code so that is an oversight, I will add one immediately.
Your second point about stderr is valid, let me consider.

Maybe I misunderstood, should I be able to download this from somewhere, the download at "https://www.donation...r/MiniCap/index.html" is from last year.

Please try downloading the newly uploaded v1.34 from the download page and see the documentation on two new commandline options:

-stderr
If the parameter is passed, all errors will be sent to stderr stream instead of being displayed using messageboxes on screen.
-cursor
Includes the mouse cursor when capturing an image

Thanks "-cursor" works fine, if "-stderr" used then the program should exit under all circumstances, I tried "minicap -? -stderr" and got the error message "Unkown commandline argument '-?' to stderr, but it was waiting on stdin input (also note spelling mistake in error message).

I also tried "-capsound" and that doesn't produce any sound, I doucle clicked the wav file and it sounded proving my computer doesn't have any audio playing issues...

you can use -exit to make it exit automatically, though i suppose i could enable that whenever it sees -stderr flag.

i'll check the capsound argument.

Thanks, thats only a nice to have, I will keep an eye out for an update.  Is there any documentation on what the dll's do, the program seems to work fine without them (I did install them to try "capsound").

Thanks
Dennis

The CloseApp dlls are completely unusued in the portable version, they are only there to help the installer (I'll update the portable zip maker to ignore them).

The DcKeyHk.dll and DcMouseHk.dll are used ONLY when you invoke the -captureredregselect or -captureobjselect commands, which use a special "red box" overlay on the screen while you are still able to interactive with your desktop.  If you don't use those commands you don't need those dlls.

Please try the latest official download, which is v1.35.
[BugFix] Fixed bug where -capsound arguement was ignored if -exit parameter was passed.
[MinorImprovement] Simplified help topics.
Also removed unnesc. dlls from portable zip.

@mouser

Hello there,

MiniCap page says that the latest version of MiniCap is 1.35, MiniCap forum thread says it is version 1.36, while program windows shows version 1.34:

Which is the latest actual version of MiniCap?

I highly appreciate your work but I think that you are a bitter careless with versioning. You might consider embedding the actual version number in the executable files.

Happy holidays.

Most of my apps auto-update their version info, but minicap doesn't, and I admit I have been careless about minicap versioning..
I will try to release a new version this week and clear up the confusion.

Please try the latest (1.38.01) available on MiniCap homepage: https://www.donation...tware/Mouser/MiniCap

v1.38.01 - Dec 30, 2017
  • [Bugfix] Fixed a long standing error that could cause a program fault on exit.
  • [Improvement] MiniCap now uses a configdir file to determine if it runs portably or not, and saves settings in appropriate directory (local or in MyDocments) as appropriate.

@mouser

Thank you very much- everything seems right with MiniCap version 1.38.

By the way- is there a way to get notifications when any of your programs gets an update? It is a bit tiresome to manually check for updates all your programs.

Regards

Several ways:
1. Use an RSS feed reader on this thread
2. Subscribe to this thread to get email alerts when someone posts
3. Watch for changes in the pad file: https://www.donation...Cap/pad/pad_file.xml

My larger applications have built in version checking, but not minicap.

Note: We are in the process of moving to a completely new CMS system for the website -- its possible with that we can set up some better email notification thing when apps are updated.

v1.39.01 - Apr 2, 2018
  • [Improvement] Removed a flash of the main interactive window when it was unnecessary in processing commandline.
  • [Feature] Added -noerr commandline parameter to suppress any error messages on failure to save file; commandline -exit parameter will be processes as if file was saved.
  • [BugFix] The -stderr commandline parameter will be obeyed even on failure to write image file to disk.
