Re: LATEST MiniCap VERSION INFO THREAD - v1.08.02 - July 05, 2006

Recently I had updated to v1.08.02.

Went to Autoscroll Capture a webpage.

Ran into a situation similar to what I posted above - seemingly a looping situation.

Knowing that I had captured the same or similar pages in the past, I thought it had something to do with the new version.  So I dropped back in versions.  All the way back to v1.03.01.  Yet with each version I tried, the same situation occured?

So I looked back at past screen captures.  And sure enough, in the past,  the same page had completed correctly.

Then I get to thinking, well if it worked before, it should work again.

So I went back to v1.08.02.  But before attempting the capture, I started closing most apps. down.  And that did it.  The capture completed correctly.

Perhaps some kind of interaction with a program I had been running?  Perhaps a "resource" issue?  (But that, in general, shouldn't be in XP). Not sure?  I'm fairly consistant with the apps I do run, & with which ones are running simultaneously.

Running XP Home SP2, AMD Sempron 3000, 448 MB RAM. Overall a clean & well running system.

First, thanks for such a useful little application; silent command-line screen-grab with coordinates is exactly what I need for a current project, but...

What about the license for MiniCap?

I want to do the right thing, but I can't find a key to download for this application or even a forum apart from "Screenshot Captor."  The help file doesn't seem to have any licensing information.  Will MiniCap continue to function as-is?  Do I need to take some action?

Thanks!
Apo

Just wanted to say THANK YOU! for this great software.
I use it on a daily basis and it never let me down.
Just wonted to ask if it's wrong to use upx to get a small minicap executable (it's down to 1.03mb from about 2.66mb).
With the old version i've never got "-exit" option to work (just used powerpro with *wait and *close commands) but with this last version (v1.12.01) there are no problems.
One other thing: when the red rectangle flashes i use the mouse pointer to choose a region (or object) by hovering it and for taking the screenshot i don't have to click the left mouse button, just use Ctrl or Ctrl+Shift (but not Shift alone) (i have no idea why and it doesn't bother me).
Thanks!

thanks for saying that joby -- this is one of those programs of mine that doesn't seem to have many users (at least compared to my bigger programs), so it's always nice to hear from someone who finds it useful.

by all means use upx on it -- i used to compress the executables myself but then we would occasionally see a false positive virus alert from antivirus scanners who were being stupid and i just gave up doing that out of frustration.

ps: if you like minicap and you might check out the FARR alias that works with it, it really does breath some new life into it.

that makes it very accessible to non-commandline types like me :)

i was thinking i might add to minicap:
print button, email button, and custom tools button where you could customize tools to launch on the captured screenshot, all based on code from big brother Screenshot Captor.

those wouldnt add much to the size of executable or interface, but the question is, would anyone actually use those functions?

I think MiniCap is great as it is; you should keep those for Screenshot Captor (maybe make it accept advanced commandline options like these).
I don't know why, but when using Screenshot Captor, Url Snooper or FARR the "Userappdata/DonationCoder/Keys" folder is created (with installinfo.dat and key.dat files) even though the same files are created in every application folders (i use "Configdir=." in settings). Can you make this stop (not good for flashdrive use)?
I don't know why you say MiniCap does not have many users because it is the best application of its kind on the web (freeware or commercial); i'll make a post about it on portablefreeware forum to see what others think.
P.S.: @Josh: I almost smashed my lcd trying to kill that bug from your avatar...i was soo close :) .

hahaha, nice! Now, lets smash mouser's huge head! You should hear him in the irc channel, quite a little showboater.

Nah, mouser's software is always great and this program is no exception.

Ok here some of my wishes
-Another custom mode in which minicap asks for a file name based on settings. For example I have date based file naming. So when i use this mode, minicap would name the file as todays date and bring a pop up input field where I can modify the actual name(which is based on the date)
-One more mode that would bring a scribble grafic tools in which I would modify the screenshot on the fly. This menu would be shown right after screenshot is taken. Probably couple simple drawing tools like lines and a pen.

great idea about confirming a file name -- i can add that easily, so that you can add a -confirmsave flag to use the name provided as a suggestion.

the last thing i don't do but i can add an ability to autolaunch another graphic image editor.

Mouser please make sure that minicap would respect folder settings (date based folders for example) as well before bringing the file name input window. So one does not need to browse through to find the right folder.

Bringing a graphic editor is not a bad idea either. I know minicap could run apps after execution, but if it can trasnfer the file to the app that would be great.

mouser, keep up the great work please!

Can you also add an option that would allow MiniCap to make a series of "n" screenshots at an interval of "x" seconds ? This would be very useful.
Thanks!

That's a good idea! More advanced editing features should def be kept out of minicap and reserved for Screenshot captor :)

*Bug: MiniCap chokes badly when trying to scroll-cap a browser page that contains flash (Firefox).

*Request: Have ESC (or abort from the context menu) end MiniCap completely as it currently opens the editor when wanting to cancel a capture.

Thanks

+1

This is a bit of an annoying "feature"...

It is here. Amazingly it works fine when I choose "save as". It respects the capture file and folder convention. Great job Mouser!

Uploaded v1.14.01.
Very minor changes since last version, but if you capture skinned windows (bblean, etc) then this might be useful.

Hello again!

I'd like to ask you some more questions:

1. Is there any option to automatically watermark a screenshot (I'd like to add a logo in the bottom right corner) ? If it's not possible in MiniCap, how can I achieve this with ScreenshotCaptor (I can't find the option to auto-watermark a screenshot) ?

2. Are there any official MiniCap or ScreenshotCaptor logos I could use ? I know about those clipart objects from SC, but I'd like to use something that displays only their titles, without "made with", and with transparent background.

Thanks!

the way to do it would be to find an external watermarking tool that can be invoked in commandline mode, and then add a commandline invocation of it inside Screenshot Captor or in minicap call.

see this post for some links: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=15798.0

and i'd love if you could share the solution you find.

that's a really nice thought :)
Hamradio made some cool big icons for SC that would be suitable maybe: https://www.donation....msg127164#msg127164
