What are you waiting for?
« on: October 21, 2009, 01:54 PM »
I'm waiting for:
— The mechanic to call me back and tell me if my 15-year old truck can be saved. I think the engine is gone.
openSUSE 11.2
— The rain to stop. Wettest year ever in Missouri’s Ozarks.
— Cold weather. It’s like free air-conditioning to me.
— What impact Android 2.0 will have (DroidDoes.com)
— To find out whether the neighbor’s kid caught a fish in the lake across the park. He did, a catfish. He asked me to clean it. I gave him a recipe on how to cook it instead.

Me too, Android 2.0, but not the Droid. It WILL be a game changer, but I'm really waiting for the HTC Dragon :D

First reactions to Win7.
.......................................
I'm shocked that Microsoft is still selling their OS for $200/220 (upgrade) and $300/320 (full version) in this economy. Even if I had that money, I could not pull the trigger on that purchase.  :o

Heh, I'm not that picky, I guess, because I was going to say Spring. I'm miserable falls and winters.

1.  For a rational judge to overturn the frivolous paternity suits against me.  All twenty of them.

2.  For some direction from God.  God knows what happens when left to my own devices (see #1 above).

3.  Martha Stewart's Playboy debut, before Hef kicks the bucket.

4.  An anti-priapism pill.  An effective anti-priapism pill.  Not one which gives out 20 minutes before the end of your presentation at the podium, in front of 200 women's rights activists.

5.  For some balance in my life.  Instead of coding half looped on tequila, maybe a glass of red wine before I begin, and a glass afterwards, if I manage 5 minutes of work.  Champagne, if the code itself works.

6.  To be a positive role model for youngsters thinking about becoming a programmer.

7.  For Microsoft to stick to one OS naming convention, instead of deferring to marketing types who'd name their own sons Johnson&Johnson Smith if they thought they could get away with it.

Things I'm waiting for

- the right idea - feel like I am in limbo (been living on savings) waiting for the good idea I can throw my energy into, partly it is perhaps silly. Tempted to take a job again if a good offer comes along. But in the meantime, continuing my slow process of decanting what truly matters (easy) and what I am good at

- on the gadget side, the maemo Nokia N900 is awfully interesting

- house renovations to move forward so we can use the top floor again

I'm waiting for:
openSUSE 11.2

That's Robb linux of choice here - so it is awaited here too

Waiting for my tea to cool off enough that I can drink it comfortably...

for the Bay Bridge to be fixed so traffic isn't a mess on my commute...

for developers to get back to me with project quotes...

for planning to commence...

for the work day to be over (even though I get to work from home today)...

iphigenie, what are you good at? :D

You ARE a positive role model - a positive example of how NOT to get to be a great programmer! (See your items 1. to 5.)  ;)

7.  For Microsoft to stick to one OS naming convention ...

Infinite loop detected ... Infinite loop detected ... Infi

I'm waiting for Newegg to properly package a hard drive.  My new HD arrived this morning in a small box which looked as if somebody played football with it. The HD inside the box was wrapped in a thin layer of bubble wrap without any additional padding. OK, live and learn--FedEx next time for sure.

I'm waiting for Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics to complete its Extended Test so I can use my new HD with confidence.

Agree 100% w/Zaine. I've shifted all my desktop NIX boxes over to Suse 11.2. Very well done release.
