Is There Anyway????
« on: June 29, 2009, 05:30 PM »
Is there anyway that you can play the ITUNES videos on a computer that has no internet access????
I bought some videos at ITUNES and have no problem playing them on my desktop computer but I can't play them on my laptop.
I have Quicktime Player installed but there I get an error when I try
to play a video.
I'm using WINDOWS XP with Service Pack 2.

You are running into the digital rights management again. The videos have to be authorized to play on the laptop which requires an internet connection.

You'd have to strip the DRM from the files.

That still makes no sense to me.
I'm not trying to strip the DRM protection.
I just want to play the videos!!!!

No, DRM doesn't really make much sense, considering it only hurts the legitimate users (you) but doesn't stop the pirates for long :)

You are finding out why it's bad for the consumer to buy digital content with DRM built in.

Sorry. :(

I got an email from ITUNES Support and they said that I should be able to play those videos. They also said that there is a remote device that will let you play the videos on a wide screen tv.
They wanted to know the error message I was getting when I tried to play the videos.
It says: ERROR 23132.

Thanks for the link!
It's really not going to help me to install Itunes on my laptop because it doesn't have
internet access. Hopefully someone at Itunes might be able to help but I doubt it.

I don't know why Itunes support said those videos should play. I mean, technically it's true they should...AFTER they have been authorized over the internet.

@moranacus:
Bottom line: You bought it, they still own it! IMHO DRM has nothing whatsoever to do with logic. If you've decided to go the iTunes route, just take the time to learn their rules, and then play their game.

If it were me I'd search the internet for a program that strips DRM from videos and music & 'free' your files from Apple's tyranny. Then you'd be free to watch your purchased videos anywhere you wished...just don't go distributing them to all your friends, though. :)

I know nothing about this site except that it seems to offer information about how to get rid of DRM on different sorts of media, including stuff from iTunes: http://www.antidrm.hpg.ig.com.br/.

Thanks for the replies!!!!
Cyberdiva, I'm not going to go to the link you provided because my WOT program says its not safe.
I got 2 more emails from ITUNES and they still can't tell me why I can't view those videos!!!!
I searched and tried every program I could find and nothing works.
Tunebite got back to me regarding the problem I had  with there program but they wanted
more info so I have to wait to see what they could tell me.
How come ITUNES is the only place to buy videos????
There has to be others but I'm never found them!!!!
It's strange that Microsoft has no site like this!!!!

Moranacus, I don't want to urge you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable.  All I can say is that the site only leaves one cookie (which I remove when I leave).  It does try to load three pop-ups, but Firefox blocks them, and I have no idea what they are.  Since they're blocked, I'm not all that concerned.  But, like you, I tend usually to err on the side of caution (though perhaps not quite so much caution as WOT.  :) ).  I suspect that the info the site provides is available elsewhere.

Well, I checked out that website and they only thing it mentions regarding ITUNES videos is using
TuneBite. I already tried that, and like I said I'm waiting to hear back as to why I'm having problems converting videos.
Thanks again for the link!!!!
I seem to get better help here then I do at the CNET website!!!!

moranacus,
Sometimes those apps such as WOT get a little overzealous with their warnings & issue warnings based on moral reasons (Ooo...best keep the user away from anything that might be used illegally like anti-DRM software) rather than actual security reaosons (there being drive-by trojans on the site).

Due to the way TunBite works make sure you are running it on the PC where the videos work and not on the PC where the videos do not work.

And thank the MPAA for the lack of places where you can buy DRM-free videos.

I called Apple support and the only way I can get my laptop to play ITUNES videos
is to hook my laptop to the internet so that it can be authorized to play these videos.
I don't use the laptop at all for the internet and don't have any sort of protection so
that I can be safe if I did do that.

Sorry, but like all the other programs I tried it doesn't work!!!!
I have the video that I purchased from ITUNES in a VIDEO TEST folder
but when I go to convert it brings up ITUNES and makes me login.
After I log in ITUNES it says it can't access this file and I get an ITUNES
program error.
I don't know how you get these videos to convert but can you give me more info????
