phitsc, mouser recently brought up the idea of a general-purpose chm search tool, and we came across:

http://www.citeknet....abid/64/Default.aspx

Do you think that this IFilter (or something similar) combined with your Windows Search plugin might result in anything interesting?
Looks useful. Did one of you guys check if it already works with FARR WS? I didn't know about IFilters, so thanks for the hint :)

I confess to not having tested FARR Windows Search -- but that has more to do with the machines here lacking the underlying Windows Search functionality.  Is it correct that Windows versions above XP come with Windows Search?  If that's so, once I get such a machine (or license), I'll likely be trying out FARR Windows Search :)

I'll be happy to have a look if there is a way to reproduce the problem. Is there a series of plugins that cause the issue ?

I won't have the time to look into that problem today... I spent (way) too long working on https://www.donation....msg203220#msg203220
 :-[ .

I'll post something in the other thread (https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=22442.0 ) though.

I've installed this and let Windows Search index a directory with a chm file. It doesn't seem to work, not even using the Windows Search Deskbar.

Thanks for testing it out.

Hmm, too bad it doesn't seem to work out-of-the-box :(

On a side-note, did you happen to come across either of the following?

I tried to reproduce it but got the propsys.dll error on Windows XP Pro SP3. The dependency come from FARRWindowsSearch. I tried to add the propsys.dll into the plugin folder but it crash. It isn't very surprising since it is a vista dll. Did you link to propsys ? Or compile for vista which may have add dependencies to vista dll ?

I did neither. The plugin is running fine here on my Windows XP machine. I'm afraid I still have no idea where this propsys problem on some PCs is coming from.

I also get a propsys.dll error on Windows XP Pro SP3 -- I don't have Windows Search installed and had assumed that was a factor.  May be it's something different?

@phitsc If this is a visual studio project : Sometimes includes can add libraries. You may try to add propsys.lib to "ignore default libraries" in project properties under configuration properties/linker/input/ignore specific library to force visual to not include it. If it can't link you'll know the name of the function and probably why it is included...

Ok, thanks for the hint ecaradec. I'll check that.

:( Turns out I actually do link propsys.lib :( so I can use the PSFormatForDisplay function. Although the API help states Windows Vista to be the minimum supported OS I am actually very positive that the plugin runs just fine on my Windows XP machine :) Maybe because I installed WDS 3.0 separately. Or maybe because I have Visual Studio and Platform SDK installed.

Sorry to anyone who tried to find a solution to this problem :-[. And thanks to ecaradec for the hint .

So I guess my current solution is to make Windows Vista the minimum supported OS for this plugin.

(I think I have never used so many smilies in one post)

Ok, I can now confirm that propsys.dll is installed with Windows Desktop Search. So if you're running Windows XP, you need to additionally install Windows Desktop Search (current version is 4) to use the FARR Windows Search plugin.

Hi, I sometime get the following errors when searching for Outlook Contacts ("dosearch ws store:mapi kind:person name:$$1 -vcf"):
"Access violation at address 7C9201B3 in module 'ntdll.dll'. Write of address <<variable>>."
(variable = 032F2EC6 or 032D2EC6 or 03792EC6 etc.)

followed by:
"EAccessViolation."

and then:
"Access violation at address 74DC0DE8. Read of address 74DC0DE8."

Any idea on what's causing that bug?

I'm running Windows XP SP3 and WS 4.0.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been very sick the whole week. Everything still aches but at least the fever is gone.

Concerning the crash: I don't have Outlook at home but will try to reproduce the crash next week with my company laptop.

Thanks for the report anyway!

Hey phitsc, don't be sorry, always health first!

Precision: FARR crashes when I "launch" the result (to open the contact sheet).

Get well.

I just installed FARR on a Win 7 SP1 beta (x64) and the WS plugin.  When I try to do a search FARR hangs/crashes.

Thanks for the feedback justauser. I have no Windows 7 64 installation. Can anyone with such a setup confirm?

I was never able to fix my problem either. As soon as I select/reach for a search result, I get an error :

 (see attachment in previous post)

Wasn't that the problem with an old version of the FScript plugin?

Thanks for your fast answer.
I must say I'm a bit  confused with all these Fscript versions. I read the thread a gain, looked at my current version : 1.10.
When I run DC updater, it says it's up to date.

But then, if I go to this page http://e.craft.free.fr/farr/FScript/ , I see versions going up to 1.20.

Using the DCUpdater is actually more confusing then just check for updates manually. In any case, I remember I uninstalled the 1.20 version as it caused other problems. Might try it again, but then... Who actually uses it ? Those not using DCUpdater ?
