To avoid the possibility of spammers posting just to show links to their site:

Signatures now not shown if you have under a certain number of posts (currently 10, could change)
If you try to simulate a signature in your post that looks even remotely spammy (like a link to some site selling stuff) it will be removed.

Did you turn them off in your profile preferences? There is an option for that. I've had them turned off for a long time now.

I have the same issue as Carol - over 5000 posts and haven't seen anyone's (mine included) signature in a week or so...
