NANY 2009 Rewards and Prizes
« on: January 19, 2009, 06:53 AM »
I can't think about NANY Rewards without thinking about the explosion of interest and activity that this year's NANY has become: what a wonderful reward for DonationCoder and its members!!  :-*

NANY Rewards
We had 31 successful entrants this year that produced 35 new, exciting and varied applications: and they all will receive a wonderful NANY 2009 mug (or similar) with their choice of NANY Graphic:

Nany2009_Cody Pirate - Split.pngNANY 2009 Rewards and Prizes
Nany2009_Cody Pirate - Centred.pngNANY 2009 Rewards and Prizes
Nany2009_Cody Coding - 2009.pngNANY 2009 Rewards and Prizes

NANY Extra Prizes
During the Challenge, NANY 2009 also received some extra prizes to give away. Some were posted on the forum, but another one almost materialized out of nowhere! I originally wrote a Review of the Synology DS207+ and had discussions with Synology about providing a unit for one of DonationCoder's Give-Aways. The Give-Away never eventuated, but something better has: Synology have very kindly offered a brand spanking new DS209+ to one of the successful entrants.

Selecting which of the 31 coders to give what extra prizes to was, to be honest, a horrid job. Mouser and I both agreed that it was not possible to rank the entries in any quantifiable order, so in the end it came down to selecting them on a random basis (with just a little tweaking to ensure a good spread of prizes).

So here are the extra winners:
Backup4All
  • CWuestefeld
  • deviantopian
  • theo geer
  • NinJA999
  • NahtanoJ88
  • Blaster

Synology DS209+
  • justice

USB2 Sata Enclosure
  • skwire

Sata Racks (2)
  • Crush

TV Tuner
  • kwack1

Congratulations all winners and extra winners!!

Congratulations to all the people who participated in NANY this year.

As you all know the event is not a competition and as Perry says -- these extra prizes we scrounged up were just an attempt to send out a few random bonuses after the fact, not based on quality of submission but just to do a little spring cleaning and have some extra fun.

In fact, the only super prize (the DS209) was *originally* given to Perry (to give away on DC) as a thanks to the review he wrote a long time ago, and Perry decided we could give it away as part of our fundraiser but decided it might be funner to give it away now.

We all owe a huge thanks to Perry for doing so much behind the scenes for this year's NANY event -- it's only because of his hard work that it all went so smoothly.  As i told him, the hard part is going to come when he tries to find a hiding placing from us when next year's NANY event arrives and we go looking for him..  :P

What a great PR move! Way to go!

Not fair! His algorithm worked! :'(

Code: C [Select]
  1. [12:22] <Crush_BD> for (int x=0; x<maxwinners; x++) printf("%s",Crush);
-Crush

'grats everyone, and let's look forward to NANY 2010 (unless mouser sells DC to Microsoft Corp.)

Congratulations to all other winners out there!   :greenclp:
Perry has indeed deserved the main price for his great work!

I´m really a lucky man now :eusa_dance:. I see a game where you can win a big BMW. I´ll try this today...
Do you have more detailed informations about my price? A typename perhaps? What kind are they? Are there 2 of Racks or a rack for 2 hdds?

yes, but he didn't get any prize.. unless by that you mean the prize of being allowed to spend another month of his life working on NANY 2010 next year? In which case you are quite right.  ;D

Yes very true! I should have replied to mouser's post sooner, but I thought his main intent was the (not so) veiled threat of NANY 2010. Everyone has been a little too concerned about my rewards from NANY 2009: My main focus has been the coders not the paper pushers, so I've probably neglected that aspect a little, which has produced a lack of transparency.  Not good: but I'll fix it up here...

It was possible that not all personal prizes were announced on the Rewards thread (such as computerfritze's to me), so other coders may have received personal prizes apart from those posted here. I've also received DonationCredits from other members (which is very nice too -- but you shouldn't do it!) and there was a matter of a leftover Backup4All license that I thought I could use (which I really should have added to the list :-[ ). So I've done very well, to be honest, more well than I really wanted.

Concerning the Backup4All license: If any of the successful NANY 2009 Coders would like to have it you are more than welcome to it! What we did was to ask each of the successful NANY Entrants to "express an interest" in one/some/all of the available prizes (and most of them did). This meant that only those who really wanted each prize would have a possability of receiving them. All the thanks, good wishes, DonationCredits and personal prizes has made the last Backup4All license superfluous in many ways: so if you'd like to change your mind about the Backup4All license please email or PM me.

Sorry for any confusion  :-[

Projects like this are always more work than originally thought, to do it so well the first time is very impressive. And then to get involved with testing various entries in addition is very much appriciated. So very well done Perry, and mouser and others. It made a big difference. Also want to say it really helps people feeding back on the projects, even now, otherwise I would probably have never finished it in the first place haha.  Well that's what makes Donationcoder great isn't it.

And thank you for the extra prize, can't wait to play around with it.

Holy batman, I won something  :tellme:

Perry, not enough can be said about how awesome you've made this NANY event, not only did you round us all up but you also took the time to test and provide constructive feedback on each and every application.

For your efforts, above and beyond the call of duty, we thank you!

I know I've said thanks in email correspondence but it needs to be said publicly, too.  Thanks!  (and thanks for the prize/gift, too).

The Backup4All people have just emailed me that they've [just] emailed out their prizes.

If you were a recipient of one of the Backup4All prizes and you have not received your license please email or PM me ASAP and we'll sort it out.

I've actually had quite a lot of fun tracking it across the globe as it made its way from Australia to the UK! Last message:
Your item was delivered - UNITED KINGDOM at 10:49 on 26 Jan 2009.

What I want to know justice: was it really 10:49?

I guess global time keeping is going to create issues: I was never quite sure what the dates actually meant: 26th my time or your time or your time converted into my time or...

Don't know what you mean? That plug looks normal to me? When they sent it to me we didn't know what country it was going to eventually reside in  ;)

If you make all pins parallel you'll almost get U.K. adapter.
Or rip off middle one and make two left rounded to make it Polish ;)

PS. Holy cow! I took a look at: http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Power_connector
I think you should be glad that you've got no "IP 56" connector...

Think it's your time, not sure what timezone you're in? I'm on GMT.
It's just the first time I've seen such a plug, i'm used to these:   :D

But I had a power cable lying around which works fine.  Anyway having much fun at the moment exploring it all.
