The Spore creature creator (demo?) is now available for people to download and play with:

It's a very powerful and user-friendly tool for creating fun looking 3d creatures, originally intended to be used with an upcoming game called spore, but increasingly looking like it will be a standalone toy.

What i thought would be really fun is to have a contest to see who can make the best Spore Creature version of our mascot Cody. You can see more pictures of Cody on Nudone (Nick Pearson)'s website (http://www.wtfcody.com).

Winner will be chosen on July 1st or soon after and I hope Nudone will agree to judge the winner. Prize will be a dc mug with the real Cody and your Cody creature side by side.

mouser: apparently the creature editor is being sold as a standalone toy, for people who can't be arsed playing the game but like playing around.

i guess the download is not the full version; full version of the creature creator is $10.

so i'll reimburse the first 3 cody entrants (as well as the eventual winner) for the price of it.

Christ, why do they have to try and obfuscate the names? It's not like it confuses the pirates and the crackers anyway. I really want to purchase spore and support the developers, but seeing that it's EA branded and with the horror stories about the new phone-home and limited-number-of-activations crap... I almost feel like pirating it, just to set an example >_<

justice, i can definitely see the relation to cody, but i'm not sure i'd want to be alone with that creature for fear of my life.

If you post your creatures with a pic like Mizraim you can actually use the pic to open the creature in the editor, Just by dragging it into the window while having the build screen open

Still isn't good enough, though. They should give up their crap and release the games through STEAM, that's probably the least obnoxious scheme available.

Okay here's mine. Doing the tail fins is hard

Edit: Here's a picture with Cody Babies and a video (avi format) is attached (zipped in a RAR). Cody doesn't seem to be very happy when the babies show up.

codec problem? Worked fine here, playing in MediaPlayerClassic, with no codecs (iirc) except for xvid and possibly AC3.
