New C# FARR Plugin: FARREnviormentVariables
« on: December 28, 2007, 07:32 PM »
This plugin lets you easily access your environment variables. For example, Firefox keeps all its settings in your application data folder (%appdata%). In explorer you could simply write %appdata% to access it, however, in FARR it isn't possible. Until now :).

Install the plugin and press % to see the list of your environment variables, select one to automatically expand it on the search path or simply continue writing. Once you add the \ it would automatically expand. E.g, writing %appdata%\ would automatically become C:\Documents and Settings\Vitaly\Application Data\.

Notice: Only the variables that actually represent a folder, %PATH% and other variables won't be visible.

Enjoy!
P.S I was a bit on the roll ;) But that's it, I stop for now.

coool :)
another nice plugin would be one that lists all registered environment variables and their values and lets you search; click on one to copy it to clipboard (note farr has a copytoclipboard command you can all).

What? No, you don't need to do that :(

;) Just kidding. It's brilliant to us mere users to have another plugin writer for our favourite launcher. Thanks for your contributions to FARR and DC!

The plugin throws some errors on my system:

This one appeared when I first booted today.

Find&Run Robot [FindAndRunRobot.exe] Screenshot - 30.12.2007 , 10_11_55.pngNew C# FARR Plugin: FARREnviormentVariables

Then, when clicking above, I got this:

Find&Run Robot [FindAndRunRobot.exe] Screenshot - 30.12.2007 , 10_12_10.pngNew C# FARR Plugin: FARREnviormentVariables

Then:

Find&Run Robot [FindAndRunRobot.exe] Screenshot - 30.12.2007 , 10_12_24.png

Then FARR crashed and I had to restart it.

Now, when I "Click to examine and configure plugins" I get the following error and I can't configure plugins:

Find&Run Robot [FindAndRunRobot.exe] Screenshot - 30.12.2007 , 11_05_05.pngNew C# FARR Plugin: FARREnviormentVariables

Removing the "EnviormentVariables" plugin folder solves the problem. (Also, shouldn't it be called FARREnvironmentVariables and not FARREnviormentVariables?  ;) )

Hi. I had the same issue. It is conflicting with an older version of FARRAltTab.

Download the latest version.

yes, getting the latest version of AltTab works. However, I would've gotten it if DCUppdater had found the update, which it didn't, so maybe you could fix the pad file or whatever DCUppdater looks for.

Thanks though, works like a charm now :)

I am not quite sure what's wrong =\. It might NOT be the latest version issue.
Stay tuned.

minor bug here (but then you know vitaly there's been lots of problems here that havent been happening elsewhere!)

with this plugin installed, when I open my programme of choice, FARR stays open - but goes to the back of any open windows
if I go win+m its there on the desktop

hmm -
just checked FARR + EV plugin work perfectly when the GS plugin isnt installed
GoogleSuggest works on it's own
So the problem is with "EV" (but only in conjunction with) and "GS" when they both loaded

this here just FTR - I'm prob going to remove this one cause I dont use it much

[edit] corrected above

Hmm. I have currently all the .NET plugins installed and I don't experience what you described.
Right now there should be only 1 real issue about C# plugins. I guess I should post about possible errors and solutions on the SDK thread.

I'll add your report there.

I've had the same problem. This is on a XP Home by the way.

Almost relieved I'm not alone!
Actually it is also happening (sometimes at least) with just the EV plugin (even though it worked okay initially when I was testing it that way :-\)
Going to try with just the GS plugin for the next while...

Are you guys sure it is connected to any plugin at all? Does this behavior constantly disappear when you disable those plugins?

all clear so far with googlesuggest -
I'm fairly definite it's to do with these two or\and the ms update you mention in the SDK thread
(the plugins didnt work for me before I got that download)

edit/ XP home here too

Just to clear the air:
It was a bug with FARR EnviormentVariables after all, should be fixed in last version.

Not working as of the latest version on DCUpdater.  Crashes FARR without warning.

I would love to see this plugin revisited! Environment variables are something I use extensively!

---- Update

Disregard! Confirmed working in Windows 8 x64 with the latest FARR release. Awesome!

vitaly's plugin showed the value of this idea so much that i built in the feature into farr for the next release.

It is great to see this functionality being built-in to FARR. I have been helping mouser test out this feature. Very nice, if not as nice as, as is the original plugin developed by vitalyb!
