I am not sure if it is a bug or I am not using this properly (due to my ignorance of some FARR options)...

If I type in "loc gen", then everything is OK, the list in FARR and in locate32 is the same. However, if I add one more letter "loc gene", then the results are different - I get only one result in FARR, although in Locate there are many more. What is going on?

I've had that problem too - I think it's caused by a buggy version of locate.exe? Have you tried upgrading to the bleeding-edge?

I've had similar problems with the locate plugin... These problems + the fact that I can't use half of the results because of farr's diacritics intolerance (with the locate plugin anyway) mean that I almost don't use it anymore. I prefer to use the other less sexy but more reliable locate alias.

Here's the preformated alias in case you'd like to use that

0>>>"locate32">->loc $$1 |C:\Program Files\Locate\Locate32.exe -r $$1>+>^loc (.*)

(just right click in the your "my aliases" section in the alias tab or something like that and choose the "paste preformated alias", or something like that)

to use it, type "loc ", followed by what you're looking for. Of course, you can edit the regex (loc) for whatever you want... it could even be a space, for quicker searh...

How do you bring results from all drives available? My results return only from c:\ unless I put another drive name in the parameters which I do not prefer at all.

it depends on the default database that you have set within the program. Open Locate then go to Options>Settings>Database. here select the item "database in use" and edit to include "Check local drives".

what version are you using - both the plugin & the program? there is a known incompatibility between certain combination of versions.

we recently moved dcmembers.com stuff to a new server.. it's possible we missed okke's account -- certainly not on purpose  :P

gothic (our wonderful server admin) will look into it and fix.

I just installed Locate32 and I have a problem.

I used DcUpdater to install it and everything went fine with the install.

I then hit (Break) to open FARR
I wanted to see the Locate32  help so I began to type: loc /?
At that moment, a dialog box opened: Locate32 Plugin Advanced Configuration

FARR edit box only showed [loc /] so I don't know if my typing of the [?] was even seen.

In the dialog box, the location/path was empty.

Locate32-1.png

I clicked cancel and I get an error box telling me Locate32 cannot be found.

Locate32-2.png

I close the error box and I am back to the Locate32 Plugin dialog box.

FARR window is disabled waiting for input to dialog box.

So, I am in an endless loop, can't close dialog, can't get to FARR.

I had to close FARR with Task Manager-End Process ... everything closed ok.

I will re-boot/retry this and I am sure I will get it working ...
I just wanted to report what appears to be a problem with setup of Locate32 in DCUpdater.

Looks like you only installed the locate32 plugin, not the actual program, which you need as well. http://www.locate32.net/ then after installing that go back to the plugin options and provide the path to the locate executable in there manually.

I think that's not the problem sosimple wanted to point out.
It shouldn't be possible to run into such a loop!

WebUI for locate32

I'd asked Janne (author of locate32) first and s/he (?) said they are not interested in developing it, so i figured i'd ask the community.

Anybody here wants to take a crack at it or figure out a way to use it online? This would make Network deployments a gazillion times easier! I find that it's easier to train users to search online, and then find files even if they were not on the PC.

Can you think of this idea and let me know how hard you think it'd be? since you there's already a command line based client, maybe something could be done to make it work in an AJAX like style online? A plugin perhaps? Suggestions ..etc welcome!

Great idea. I'd love to have a go at it but I've got too many things on the agenda atm. :( But i'd try and use ASP.NET as the coding then will be trivial and it could be bundled with cassini meaning it can be installed on a desktop or something and forgotten about, and work with IIS if tis a server using xcopy deployment of Asp.net. Screwturn wiki has similar deployment options.

I have been trying to get this plugin for a while - however I keep getting a "file not found" error on the links I tried (i.e. those in this thread and the one in the main plugin page)
Any ideas?

I wonder if it is still the same problem as:

I've corrected the link in the first post to point to the right location -- we've been adjusting the dc member server and some links are needing adjustment, sorry.

Thanks - the link is still not working in the main plug-in page but is working in this thread again.

Also:
Thanks for the plugin.
I have been using it for a while and it mostly works as I remember it (i.e. it locates the files).
However I have been getting the following error when I right-click on the found files: "External Exception E06D7363" instead of the option to open the file or to open the folder it is in.

Does anyone else have the same problem?
-myself in another thread
