help me find an old videogame's music
« on: September 16, 2007, 08:45 AM »
Ok, I remember the music from one arcade videogame (I mean, one of those where you have to 'insert coin' to play. We are talking maybe 80's, early 90's.)

I have no idea how it's called. I can describe it a bit, with any luck it'll be popular enough to be recognized.

It was a conan-like warrior in a scrolling paradigm, like mario bros. The only feature of the warrior is that it had short hair. The standard weapon was a shield and a short sword, the two top-ups were: (1) wolverine-like claws, increased speed and (2) a long sword, longer than the height of the warrior itself, better reach, but slower. It was not a super-hit, I don't even remember the company.

The enemies were zombies, with the most common one being seen just above waist (weird!), moving left and right, half buried. You had to duck to kill those.

Anyway, the soundtrack was fantastic. Maybe I should just hum it and upload the file :)

If you know the name of the videogame or where I can get the name with such a description, please let me know!

Thanks

Thanks, I checked it, and I don't think I recognize the title. That's probably because I dunno the title :).

PLus, that'd be only midi music, not the real thing.
Any other pointers?

good catch!
But nope, the main character was bigger... and the levels where all conan-like ruins, and forests...

Let me try my hand at it. Rastan? Warrior Blade? Nastar? The Astyanax?

Gaming with MAME at last proved useful ;D. If you can't find the music, give me a call and I'll help you.

I know there are tools to rip animations from MAME screens, is there a similar tool to capture audio output from the soundchip emulator? Or do you have to use an external recorder (sndrec, Audacity, etc.)?

I read on Wiki that Rastan was also known by two other names, Nastar and Nastar Warrior  ???

Nastar is the second part of Rastan, "Nastar" is the worldwide name. "Nastar Warrior" is the name used in the USA and "Rastan Saga 2" is the Japanese name. The third part is that "Warrior Blade" I linked in my previous post.

Rastan is named either "Rastan" or "Rastan Saga" (only in Japan).

There are better tools to hear the music in Nastar without going through the hassle of ripping and editing WAVs from MAME. In fact, the MAME sound core provides everything. So if you can't find the MP3 (or similar codec) soundtrack (two OST were published, although I suspect they're only available either in sites dedicated to game music or in the "dark corners" of tha Interweb), I'll provide you the tools.

Thanks Lashiec, I think your solution will be faster than searching for the mp3/CD. PM me with details please.
