Ah-ha! I may have found the answer myself... seems to be the Defense+ component of Comodo Firewall causing the problem - it is asking me to create a rule for the new game I am running, but the dialogue box is trapped behind the fullscreen application with no way to retrieve it!

And just discovered that Comodo Firewall does contain a manually enabled Game Mode that solves this issue, though I've not discovered HOW it solves the issue!

For months I've experienced this issue and never found an answer: so time to ask the DC community!

When many games try to go fullscreen both of my dual screens go black and the system freezes.

I can't hit escape, alt+tab, win+tab, ctrl+alt+del, win+pause/break, win+d

The only way to get out of this situation is to hit the power or reset button and reboot.

A few examples…

Games that run just fine
All games in my Steam library
Batman Arkham Asylum
Civ V
Perspective

Games that black screen
Flight Control HD
Gatling Gears
OIO
Qrth-Phyl
Master of Alchemy
Super Hexagon

I can see no connection between those games that work and those that don't.
.
One way to get around the issue is to run offending games in a window, and if they don't offer that option to run them in a sandbox (such as the Comodo Firewall sandbox or SandIE) which forces them into a window.

Gfx Driver: Catalyst 13.1
Gfx Card: Radeon HD5770
Screen Res: 1280x1024 both screens.
OS: Win7 x64

Does anyone have any thoughts about what is going on? The situation is driving me mad!

Thanks

Where do you find the above info: use the same keyword to group entries?

I didn't find the information anywhere, I just tried it, and it worked.

Seemed obvious to me that was how the feature should work, but I admit it could be made a bit more explicit!

As for management of the various projects and associated folders: I agree that the current system is rather basic, as one will end up with an ever growing unordered list of entries.

I suggest discussing with Channing (the author). I have chatted with him about various Listary issues. I've always found him to be very interested / committed / supportive.

Update 1: So I went ahead and made a post on the Listary forums. We'll see what Channing says.

Update 2: Channing has replied to my suggestions, and it looks like Project management will be getting an upgrade in the next version. See thread in update 1 for details.

Did I even misunderstand the "project" feature in Listary?

I think you may indeed have misunderstood Listary's projects.

A project is a keyword that limits Listary's search to a single drive / folder or a collection of folders.

Example: I like to search my music collection which is spread over 2 drives in 3 folders. I add an entry for each folder in the projects view and give them all the same keyword "mu" as an abbreviation of "music".

Then I search "mu jackson" to see only files and folders from my music collection (the 3 folders defined earlier) that contain the word jackson.

NOTE: Listary does include favourites - bookmarked folders to which you want to gain access with only one click or minimal typing, but this is quite separate from 'projects'.

Have been running v4 throughout the beta testing period, and gotta say I love it  :-*

Instant system wide searches is fantastic.

Good job Channing

SpeedDial is Opera's new tab page.

Um...what?

This is by no means new.

I believe you may be reading this differently than the author intended... I see this a a statement of fact, that SpeedDial is a feature that Opera uses as its new-tab page. ie a new blank tab displays SpeedDial, as opposed to the feature being new.

Not quite the same, but I am liking Bins.

Still using xplorer² PRO.

Was disgruntled to have to pay again when version number jumped to 2 - so I didn't!

Instead used TrialPay (found some daft offer whereby if I signed up at a casino - with false information and a disposable email address - gave me a free license!)

Hey y0himba - if Flatout Ultimate Carnage is still up for grabs I would thoroughly enjoy a copy :)

Thanks.

General Software Discussion / Re: 2013 Version: Browser Wars
« on: January 28, 2013, 03:14 AM »
I too have stuck with Opera, though the most recent versions (certainly everything 12 and the tail end of 11) have had me questioning my browser choice.

My chief frustration is some sort of compatibility problem between Opera and my email host (Dreamhost) where a proportion of my mail simply doesn't arrive! I have a work around - all messages show up if I manually "Resynchronise all messages" but it is a real hassle!

Beyond that I have found 12 to be more unstable than previous versions, web compatibility seems to be getting worse, and it frustrates me that newer features of CSS3 and HTML5 are being added significantly slower than in other browsers.

Why don't I change to something else?

Despite the above issue - I still really love having my email accounts in one place, in a proper desktop app, inside my browser.

And every time I try Chrome or FF I spend a day or more installing addons to incorporate basic out of the box Opera like behaviour.

Well done Wraith808 - I know from experience it is a lot of work to organise such a giveaway!

Nice - if only I had a presentation to give.

Oooh - good news about v4 beta.

I bought Listary Pro in the last offer and have been patiently waiting :)

Replying to my own post…

Just discovered that VLC can do this. There is an option in Preferences (Advanced Mode) under Playlist to "Play and Pause".

Seems that it might be a viable solution for me - but I'd be happy to hear of any alternatives.

Hello DCers,

I am days away from going on tour with a theatre production that involves sound and video playback and have yet to find the ideal software with which to cue the show.

What I need…

  • PC software with low system requirements that will run on a basic laptop.
  • Is fast and stable.
  • Ideally freeware, or at least inexpensive.
  • Plays wav files.
  • Plays h264 video files.
  • Has a playlist of files.
  • Pauses after playing each track until a key is pressed to advance to the next item.

It is this final requirement that is the biggest stumbling block.

I have used xmPlay for this purpose in the past, but it only handles audio NOT video, so is no good this time around.

Any pointers? Thanks.

DC Gamer Club / Re: Worms Revolution

Hmmm... The last Worms release on the PC put me off Team17 for good, and I'm tired of buying the exact same game from them for over 20 years!

DC Gamer Club / Re: Humble Bundle 5

This has become an absurdly awesome bundle - it contains most of my favourite games of all time, and risks adding a couple of new entries to my list...

"Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP" was superb.

@jgpaiva: Yep that is standard HIB protocol.

I think that over time it ensures that the average price keeps creeping up - so if you want the best value deal you have to get in there fast.

Awesome line up.

This will be the third time that I've paid for Psychonauts! But it is so good I don't begrudge that one bit.

Dived into SuperBrothers: Swords and Sworcery - enjoying it so far. A unique feel to the game.

I've always found Aero confusing... being able to see through window titles / edges to the blurred clutter beyond seems akin to working at a glass desk and being constantly distracted by your own feet!

The Win8 mockup does look incredibly bland though!

General Software Discussion / Re: powerful undo
« on: May 19, 2012, 10:55 AM »
@skwire: I think you're coming at this from the wrong end... no need to monitor and record all those things! Simply with the invention of a time machine it would be easy to step back to an earlier moment in the 4th dimension, with no need to 'undo' anything - physics would take care of it all!

I would very gladly take a free copy of Torchlight :)  :-*

AmpaSteam (on Steam)

Thanks, if I'm the lucky one - and thanks for the offer to DC community even if I'm not!

Ampa

UPDATE: Received my gift - Thanks again p3lb0x

Odd - interesting

I've always been able to get to both sites depending upon which TLD I use... now it seems keen that I use the UK site.

Oh well  :-\

As of around 9pm GMT Google.com is redirecting me to Google.co.uk

All browsers, all computers in the house.

This has buggered up my address bar search in Opera.

Has this happened to everyone in the UK?
Just those on TalkTalk?
Or just me!
