Drakh : If you're asking for programming help you'd best give the programming language you're using or you'll get no help.

Eric : Nine days for a feature-rich program... You may be the tenth wonder of the world.

A question that potential coders might want answered: Can you copy files to your device in windows explorer?

28
Maybe these posts IDEA: Allow input commands to be sent to background windows. and

IDEA: Ability to select multiple windows and send keyboard input to all of them will help.  I thought the topic sounded familiar. :)

Let me and others know if/ when the problem is solved for you -or if the links helped.

I'd like to volunteer for help/ doc authoring; I'm generally pretty good at the ol' spelling in English. I've previously used Word and Javadocs; I'm up for trying the above software ('Help & Manual Pro' and/or 'Dr Explain') or downloadable free/ cheap alternatives. Obviously this will require some participation with the software author.

I can't believe more people haven't volunteered yet!

I would like to know about licences as it would be galling to learn a language, write a cool app (as if) and attempt to make some money only to find out the licence of your choice of language was unsuitable (maybe even a court case threatened). At which point do you have to buy a compiler/ suite. Any salient experiences, good or bad, folks?

31
I guess the obvious questions are 1) Which operating system? 2) What command line? 3) Is a gui required for changing the command line? 4) Or is changing a .ini style file sufficient?

I can't help feeling you'd be better off with a launcher style program like popsel, qsel, our-own (or rather Mousers' own) FARR or launchy. Either one could be tethered to a hotkey (using start-menu shortcuts for instance).

32
Okay, I couldn't figure out how to jump to tabs using the keyboard

Try using the keys Ctrl-Tab to jump from one tab to the next, with shift to go backwards if nec.

I love the idea, Mario fatjoe but I think that delays should be added in to allow other users to use the lyrics site rather than one user hogging their resources.

Great idea, perfect for students to test their heavy mettle! One question, how are you getting the above accuracy? I'd have thought it should be (63/21)*100 = 300%, not 30%. But I'm no expert, just guessing here.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Memory usage pie-charter
« on: November 03, 2009, 02:13 PM »
I've noticed I started this post asking for a Pie-chart displaying Memory use rather than CPU use. This is because I'd obviously ideally like both, but either would be a step-up right now.

I've started a new thread (in which Mouser has shown some interest) in this Process Tamer board

I started this thread elsewhere, here's the link...

Basically, could you provide a Pie-chart of CPU usage, Mouser?  Useful options were discussed in that other thread.

I'm thinking now that this should have been a Process Tamer feature request as the little CPU histograms show that this data is already collected -so there would be little extra overhead. Some options for an instant snapshot or a trend line (and exclusion of system Idle process and/or the program itself from the chart) and some graphics should be easy (as pie) compared to the hassle of collecting the data in the first place?

Anyway, could some kind moderator move this thread or link to it in the Process Tamer feature request section?

Finished Programs / Re: Warning that I'm on Battery power

pay for this program by spending one hour petting one or several cats.

Well, Mouser would like that, but I'd rather chase 'em.

Thanks for answering, folks. In case you're wondering, I did searches for this (concurrent to typing my query -rather than before as most intelligent life-forms would choose to do) and there was one thread here that sounded hopeful but was ultimately disappointing. So, it would appear that this beast is extinct.

Getting a "real time" pie chart looks to me like it's going to use quite a bit of RAM and CPU.
But so does Process Explorer and similar tools. One option the tool might therefore provide is an "Exclude this program from Pie" tickbox option.

Barneys programming experience here does not exactly fill me with hope though. Maybe programming Windows has got more reliable since...

41
Moderators, feel free to move the topic if appropriate.
I guess they did.  ;)

I like it, sounds like a great idea. Especially if there is some way to hide all other desktop icons and switch between the two views (desktop and minimised views). I suppose you could then jettison most of the taskbar...

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Memory usage pie-charter
« on: October 26, 2009, 10:46 AM »
As you no doubt know, Folder space Pie Chart programs are prevalent, but I'm hunting for a program (or could be a Process Tamer feature, Mouser...) that will draw a pie-chart for memory usage per process / application (with or without System Idle Process). I think the whole world and his/ her dog will appreciate this one...  :Thmbsup:

Maybe have F5 as a refresh hotkey? Sound good to you?

I'm sure it must exist somewhere (I can't be the only one to have thought of it!) So has anyone found such a program?

And there must be other system aspects crying out for similar process-charting. Eg. bandwidth. Sound good to you guys? Any more ideas?

Why not use a good text editor like NoteTab; create a template and then paste it where it's needed. I don't really see the relevance of D&DR here (but then I haven't used cmdMailer or abc2pdf) so I admit I'm speaking from ignorance.

44
Another approach, if you know the window has roughly the same dimensions each time you use it, just guide the mouse to the right spot and then send a mouse click. This way might be easier as you don't need to get a list of controls and then work out which one you want. That would be the best way of course, once you've done the hard work of programming it. My way above would be a quick hack.

In case you're wondering though, people are less likely to devote time to programming a solution they can't test. Which java program are you using and which screen is it you need help with? Maybe you could post a picture of it? Without such info you're likely to get only general advice. Good luck.

Can change between Red, Amber, Green light in the tray via simple menu.

Red means turn screensaver off indefinitely.
Amber is normal use, screensaver comes on after a given time period.
Green forces screensaver to start within, say, two seconds (useful if you have something like JKDefrag as a screensaver).

The idea is based on saverstarter at  http://www.brianapps.net/saverstarter but this is a much simpler idea and it has a way to turn off the screensaver without leaving your mouse pointer stuck in one position.

I don't need this app but I'd love it and so would countless other people, I'm thinking!

======================================

This could be extended with profiles to allow R-A-G display to change for all manner of user-defined commands

eg. I could create and choose Profile 1 with a 1 in the centre of the traffic light; called 'Num Lock' with
     R=Num lock on          <<--- using something like nircmd, a script or an exe, bat etc.
     A=Start num-lock customization software
     G=Num lock off

These profiles could of course be shared with other users so that even if they don't want to use the screen-saver every day, they might like the num-lock feature.

Coding Snacks / Re: Overlay Folder Icon with Exe icon

I tried NiceFolders and once I figured out how to use it (despite what the web page says, it is not intuitive) it did exactly what I wanted.  :)

Ohh, well done me!!!  :D Thanks. It's always good to hear a poster who tells others when a solution is found to their satisfaction; it's so rare! That means that other post readers can get straight to the solution with less guesswork.

First step, specify whether you're working with AutoIt or AutoHotkey or other...

Have you checked the appropriate websites/ forums. I'm sure the answers will be a search away... ;D

Drag&Drop Robot / Possible feature request
« on: August 02, 2009, 12:56 PM »
There is a program/ feature suggestion at https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=19333.msg173519#msg173519 which I'm sure you'll be interested in, Mouser. To be honest the post is confusing to me at least but it enabled me to remember my suggestion which I posted there (and here -below- for good measure). I hope you don't mind. I'm sure the drag and drop thing would be really difficult but I suggest it as the idea could be beneficial.

o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-

My feature suggestion for D&DR, which may exist for all I know, would be for the program to do a hidden "program.exe -?" or  "program.exe -help" or "program.exe --h" or various combinations in order to read the help instructions for the command-line program and then display this info and allow for drag and dropping of the various command line elements (in much the same way Word might allow you to drag and drop textboxes). Or a help file could be automatically read in order to scan the appropriate help-switch and other switches. Think of the possibilities.

49
Thank you for your suggestion, but no, it's a little different.

I can however explain myself by means of this utility;
It's a graphical user interface, but what type of programme it's used with doesn't really matter. The command line string you see in the middle of the screenshot would then be divided up or split up by switches and filenames to rows according to the number of types of argument changes. (In the screenshot I count, combining same types of argument for one row, including the first exe path, roughly eight or maybe four, I'm not familiar with this programme).

How is it different? I scanned your post and it reminds me of a similar "dream" I once had, and have since forgotten as "Drag and Drop Robot" really should do the trick (however I've rarely toyed with it). If it is not what you want (few free tools are) can't you learn to live with it or request your features from the Author. He'd no doubt love to make it more relevant to thousands more users.

BTW, what screenshot are you referring to?

Not working any longer. Oh, well...
