New books wanted!
« on: September 25, 2005, 10:03 AM »
New books wanted for PopUp Wisdom!

These are just plaintext files with each quote/item on its own lines.

If you want to help make a book of quotes or sayings, or jokes, etc.
either your own stuff, or shareable stuff found on the web, please do and let me know ([email protected]) - i'd love to make it available for download.

I'd love to include a collection of RSI excercises or stuff like that (has to be plain text) - so if someone has a collection of that, i'd be especially interested.

Also would be nice to have some non-english files!

still on offer?
anyone else got any other books?

I've taken to editing books, but haven't created any new ones. I'll edit if I disagree with or dislike a quote; usually by adding a comment to it. Will only delete quotes when I think they're stupid (which happens).

I don't get any txt file with english jokes for PopUp Wisdom.

So I am going to make one.

The difficult thing is with the jokes in several lines that one - as all the rest - in a single line in the txt file.
I will try.

P.D. Can I simulate in a single line a carriage return ?

There are a lot of txt files in

http://www.textfiles.com/humor/JOKES/

Edited : I think the best i can do is the recopilation of jokes from the living room in DC

https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=16974.0
https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=35756.0
For photos or images https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=43428.0
https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=19144.0
For Videos ?

If I detect other links I can add.

I see almost no text jokes in the forum. I will try with others too.

P.D. I have tried to format the carriage return or simulate a change of line without success. This is important to make more readable the jokes. -------> YES I Can with \n to figure a breakline in a popup wisdom phrase.

I can't configure the popup wisdom window to appear in custom way in the rest of the monitors. ------ > YES I CAN !!!!!! with the option Force Monitor # in the PopUp Wisdom Options  :-* , and Custom in the configuration.

Working in this link http://forumserver.t...y-336529/index2.html
I will make this time a good jokes book...

If you like other link tell me and I will do too.

Best Regards

P.D. I think is a good idea communicate the use of the thread to configure a puw book
I'll do. Possible with the ending - See more in http://forumserver.t...nks/joke-day-336529/
There is a way in the txt file to hide the link with an alternative text ?  A short one of course.

First doubt : Can I try to make drawings in a txt file format ? . I will try this using some sort of symbols or perhaps a special software for this.
Translate any drawing in letters forming the contour.

Is it possible ?

Yes it is possible : https://www.donation...?topic=44230.new#new

RSI excercises with PopUp Wisdom in guru meditation  :-*

I think may be possible with artistic ascii art images, but is also truth that specific programs do the best with photo realistic images and a control of time more versatile.
I have tried adapt many images, but some ascii characters are simply ignored and appear as "?" collection.
I have tried with small images, but is difficult. So I'll have to wait for better opportunities.

Nevertheless I will continue with the english jokes and spanish jokes

I would have expected a forum veteran like you to attach that blurb as a file, not drop it in the content of the post :(

There are good RSI utilities that show nice photos, etc. and are customized for that task.. I'm not sure it makes sense to try to use PopUp Wisdom for this purpose..

Adivinanzas en español. Se respetan los localismos hispano americanos y la forma de hablar típica.

Some REAL Wisdom
« Reply #22 on: September 03, 2017, 03:20 PM »
I made a few PopupWisdom books from the quotes on these two websites
azquotes.com
hinduwebsite.com
and would have offered to upload them, but then I read their "Terms". While the sites admit they have no copyright on those quotes (which are public domain), they nevertheless don't want to see their stuff copied and distributed publicly. That means, everyone would have to create their own books from such websites ("for personal use") which, of course, would be legal.

So, here's a little trick how to copy such stuff quickly for personal use (at first I made the mistake of copying each single quote by itself which was a LOT of work). This trick works especially great with the "azquotes" website mentioned above:

You can copy and paste all the quotes on a page at once (without those disturbing links and buttons in between those quotes that would require a lot of editing afterwards), by using an adblocker to hide all the disturbing elements (I used Adblock Plus together with its "Element Hiding Helper" add-on, but other adblockers, like e.g. UBlock, should work too). It needs to be done only once for one arbitrary quote, as all the elements are related. The disturbing buttons will disappear below ALL quotes and on ALL pages. Afterwards it's easy to highlight with the mouse (not with Ctrl+A, as that would highlight also irrelevant stuff) the entire relevant text of an entire page and to simply copy and paste it, in one go, page after page, into the PopupWisdom text file.

Personally, I thought it was fun to do. That way I got all the Vivekananda quotes (over 1700 quotes), all the Aurobindo, Krishnamurti, Meister Eckhart, Buddha quotes, etc. The complete "Thoughts and Aphorisms" by Aurobindo on "hinduwebsite.com" are easy to do (without the help of an adblocker), as there are no disturbing buttons and links in between the quotes that would need to get removed.

"azquotes.com" got a HUGE number of quotes (often stretching over dozens of pages) by a HUGE number of mystics, saints, saint wannabes, writers (talented and untalented), poets, "thinkers", scientists, politicians (good and evil), business men, singers, actors, pop-stars, etc. The quotes can all rather easily and quickly be copied into PopupWisdom in the way described above.

There are quite a few errors in many of the quotes (mainly punctuation errors, like unnecessary empty spaces, or missing empty spaces), probably brought about by the scanning process. Some might want to edit those errors. A few quotes are incomplete and can be completed by looking for the source elsewhere on the Web. A very few quotes are best removed as they make no sense at all. Probably those were quoted entirely out of context or were somehow mangled when they were scanned.

Right now I'm absolutely hooked on those Vivekananda quotes, and I keep checking them often every day. Thanks for providing a great piece of software that does exactly what I was looking for (took me quite some time and many searches on the Net until I found it, and I almost gave up, but finally I was lucky ;)).
