if the goal is a pacific northwest gathering, perhaps the question would be better off put directly like:

"if you live in the pacific northwest and would be interested in attending dc gathering, post what city you are from and how far you might be willing to travel to attend"

this approach could work as a general approach to dc gathering announcement threads?
