« on: August 14, 2007, 07:03 AM »
Hi Guys!!!
I'm currently planning a my vacation.I'm headed for the big LV!!!Las Vegas.I was invited to join my friend there with his older brother. All three of us are big poker fans.I have only played online poker. But I think I have what it takes to show Las Vegas players a thing or 2 ;)
Have any of you ever been? What cool things are there to see?Have any of you ever played at the tables there?Any handy pointers?
Don't be shy guys,I'm open to all suggestions!!!

I suggest that you go to the Klondike--turn left after the airport (that is, away from "the strip"), if it's still there.  It was a very interesting cultural experience, with fairly tasty 99ยข margaritas, and interesting things like penny-ante games (with cards and a dealer, rather than video machines).  The whole place is old-fashioned and was extremely cheap.  A good place to warm up without losing too much money!

Then again, I'm cheap and I like to play the nickel slots almost exclusively.
Computers are useless. They can only give you answers.

(1) One of the most exciting cities on the planet. If Tom Jones is in town, KILL SOMEONE FOR A TICKET! (Yes, yes, the man is a GOD!!) If you have to, that is.

(2) Otherwise, do the casino thing for ten minutes (they're the most boring part, when you consider the rest), then (3) head to see the real Las Vegas, the nude side. You won't forget it, I promise. Also, (4) don't stay at the most expensive hotel — you won't be spending hardly any time in your room! This time of year, you're going to spontaneously combust when you walk outside. So (5) buy an umbrella if you do any daytime walking or pool lounging. Better, (6) buy a monorail ticket for the week (you can thank me later). And (7) if you got the extra cash, take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, about 125 miles east. Just google 'grand canyon las vegas' and buy a ticket in advance. There are also lots of other National Parks near Las Vegas if you have a day to get out of town. (8) Finally, build in flight delay time going and coming. American airline travel has been worse this year than any other in history.

Tom Jones, August 14-15 and September 20-26, MGM Grand's Hollywood Theater!

Don't miss the outside shows put on by some of the casinos on the Strip, like the Mirage's volcano.

@zridling: I thought that if you "stripped LV of the Strip," as it were, you got a dusty desert town  ;)

Don't miss seeing at least one of the Cirque du Soleil shows - O  and Mysterie look interesting and there is Zumanity if you are into kinky acrobatics!

The other one that looks awesome is Ka Extreme - that's in the "MGM Grand" - they spent millions completely destroying the theatre so that all the action takes place in 3 dimensions in a huge open space. The TV doc about it looked amazing.

They seem to be taking ove LV big time. The final show currently on offer is Love - based around Beatle's music.

See http://www.cirquedus...ds/dropdown/lasvegas for details.

Considering you've only ever played online,I would set aside a certain amount of money for each day that you are there, and DO NOT EXCEED that amount!!!!!
I play online too,but have played Vegas live, and believe me,there is no comparison.I suggest you take a look at this before you go.Its really helped me out in my games and tournaments. It's got great strategy tips.
Visit the Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam.And dont forget to go see the free shows. They're well cool!!!!
Good Luck and let us know how you got on!!!!
