Just tested it, works great.

I still can't get over the fact that TnS did this completely on his own without a single question asked of me (like all of the other plugin writers!)

TnS drop me a line to say hello :)

Amazing. I've always hated the add/remove window : slow and awkward. Now it's quick and I can literally jump to the software I want to extirpate...

Someday, i guess it will be just windows, FARR and an few software...   :D

I guess it's "bye bye Safarp" :)

one thing that might be cool to think about for a future version:
when triggering on an app, instead of launching the uninstall dialog directly, what if it brought up a small dialog showing some info about the the program that could be installed, like:
directory size, last execution date, install date (dates could be inferred from file dates?),
and then with buttons for:
Uninstall, Browse Directory (which would launch explorer at the program directory), Google program name, or Close.

just an idea.

another thing you might want to consider: use the farr results list as an view that shows all uninstallable entries instead of just the results you specified. Then you're turning it into an add/remove replacement because you can choose possbile programs for uninstalling instead of just initiating an uninstall.

Don't know if you want this and if this is possible though. I guess I see FARR heading beyond the visual commandline metaphor and more of a quick data entry / reporting software (input plugins for connections, services, add/remove programs and output in different views/reports below it).

Great plugin.
One minor bug, though: When I uninstall an application via this plugin and then open the plugin again to uninstall another application it still shows the already uninstalled application, but now without the icon. Looks like a caching problem.

Cheers,
  Robert

First of all thanks for the kind messages. :)

mouser: The dialog idea is good but it is not possible to retrieve the installation directory -- the most important thing IMO --, the last execution time is usually bad -- shows an one year old date for my Winamp :) -- so it wouldn't be too useful.

justice: I don't exactly understand your idea. Do you want it to show all the uninstallable programs?

rbeeger: I will add automatic updating so the caching issue will be fixed.

(Sorry for the long delay with my reply.)

yes exactly.
I also found some programs were not uninstalling at all, Winrar for example.

Uninstallers that have 2 entry points that show as buttons "Modify" and "Remove" in the "Add/Remove programs" dialog get invoked as if through the "Modify"-button. So for those applications it is impossible to uninstall them via this plugin.
One such application is the Java JDK 6 ( http://java.sun.com/.../downloads/index.jsp ).

Strange. From my installed programs list it only happened with Java JDK 6.
I tried to uninstall Java JDK 6 with other uninstaller programs (MyUninstaller, Revo Uninstaller) but they produce the same result. They invoke the Modify function and for some odd reason Java JDK 6 doesn't provide a remove option there.

What other programs are not uninstallable beside Java JDK 6?

An idea before this becomes widely distributed.  I think it would be better to use a keyword to trigger the plugin that wasnt so likely to be used in normal searching.

what about instead of "un" using like "unstall" -- im just trying to think of a word that isnt likely to get typed while searching for a real program.

Version 1.01 is out. Changes:
* (added) Automatic update checking.
* (added) Uninstall list is now automatically refreshed.
* (changed) Uninstall keyword changed from "un" to "unstall".
* (fixed) Programs installed only for current user were not uninstallable.

Source code is now available at: http://code.google.com/p/farruninstall/

(added) Automatic update checking.
great!

but why not let it actually install the update when a new version is available?
to do so make the following change to your .dcupdate file:
  <UpdateMethod>unzip</UpdateMethod>
  <SignalForUpdate>FindAndRunRobot.exe</SignalForUpdate>
  <CloseForUpdate></CloseForUpdate>
  <UpdateFile>http://farruninstall.googlecode.com/files/FarrUninstall.zip</UpdateFile>
and change your download file to have a fixed name of FarrUninstall.zip (putting version# in the download file will make the download location non-stable so needs to be removed).

I hope you will make this change TnS, since it would then allow me to add FarrUninstall to the tab where plugins that FARR knows how to install easily for new users is listed when people run the update check.

Unfortunately the download section of Google Code doesn't supports deleting... So I have had to add it to the Subversion repository. Here is the stable link for the latest version. (dcupdate also points here.)
http://farruninstall...install%20latest.zip

(I finalised the directory structure, so the first auto update with 1.01 to 1.02 is not working.)
