Caller Id Programs
« on: May 05, 2007, 06:46 AM »

While Yac is free Phone Plus ($25 I think) has a cool little phone book and you can add more phone books. I use Phone Plus on one computer and Yac on the rest.

I couldn't get Phone Plus to notify other computers via it's listening setup. But doing that with Yac is easy.

Any other Caller ID programs out there?

Also there used to be a program that you could send commands to your modem to enable caller id if the modem would accept it.
I'm wondering if there is another that will do the same.
I know about the extra string command to add in the modem but this program enabled the modem from outside of the modem. It would enable Caller ID and that's all you had to do.

Gotta go to work, ttyl. Love this website!!!!!!

Thanks mouser,

Yac is a good free one except for no phone book. Just a notepad log.

Checking out 'Call Alert' for a while.

Phone Plus I've had for years and it's add to phone book feature is cool.

Would like to see it's notes be hyperlink enabled and have talked to the author about it. But that feature is still not implemented.

A plus for yac is sharing the modem for faxing.

Phone plus has stopped the sharing aspect because of problems that the author has said but not explained.

In other words yac will play nicely with windows fax, with it's share modem feature, but you have to shut down or release the port to fax with phone plus. The author says that this feature of sharing the modem was causing problems for end users. Don't know what they were though.

Not sure how 'call alert' will play with windows fax......yet.......

Well...Call Alert does not work whereas Yac does on the same computer and modem. Perhaps I'm missing a setting or something. The modem is caller id enabled and Call Alert does recognize it and use it but no go.

Here's another one, It's free also.

ID Commander.

Here's a few more to check out.

Initially, years ago I wanted to track and log and put in a phone book all my calls for my business with a couple of clicks.

At the time there was Phone Plus, ID Commander and Call Center.
Call Center - a program I can't find anymore - didn't work very good and ID Commander was rather unreliable back then.

So I went with Phone Plus which was $15 unlimited upgrades, now $25. If Phone Plus would add hyperlinking to it's notes, then with a click or two you could have a map or shortcut to any thing about the phone number.

Anyways here's a list of some more free ones That were posted on this site. Or linked to a page with a list.

I don't know how I missed those other two caller ID threads.  Information overload perhaps?     I must have mispelled it in the search bar....   ;D
