I'm planning to buy something to carry all my passwords with me (and save me time if I lose my laptop or have to reinstall OS). I heard that FF has a flaw that may let crackers retrieve your stored passwords. I also see people heare swearing by roboform (as a former opera-only guy, I didn't really test it).

There is a portable version of Roboform:

Has anyone compared those? Is the portable roboform less feature-rich than the standard version?

BTW, Sticky Password integrates password management features to any program on your computer. That's kind of neat.

I love Roboform but note that giveawayoftheday is featuring a similar app on today. Have neither heard of it nor tried it though! Also, the makers of Clipmate recently purchased darn! passwords, which is supposed to be very good as well (can't tell if it will run off a thumbdrive or not). Can't go wrong with Roboform, in my books...

Roboform, to be brutally honest, is the sole reason I do not use opera. Opera's lack of API prevents roboform from tying into the browser, and as such, prevents me from being a user. Roboform is the single most used program on my computer. I highly recommend it.

That does sound worrying.
Although the fact that this is openSource must mean that any security holes get fixed fast. I trust OS. This quote says it all:

RoboForm it is.
A question: how do you import AND remove all passwords memorized by FF to date, so everything is stored in RoboForm?

If you're looking for autotype, roboform is probably the way to go.
If you're only looking for a place to store your passwords and have basic autotype, keepass is a very good option. I've been using it for a while and i'm very happy with it!

Works with Firefox for me. Something to note, if you're still using Win98 (the last estimate I saw was that only 77 million people still were), then you have to use KeePass 1.3, as later ones don't work with Win98. Later KeePass, e.g. 1.06, works fine with Firefox 1.5.04 on Win2K, though.

As an alternative, saw one vote on DC for Pins. It's portable, too.

ALPass is an ALTools RoboForm-alike which works from a USB stick and is free for personal use, but it only works with IE.

KeePass 1.07 does work with Win98 - the author changed it; 1.04 to 1.06 didn't.

I have tried both of these products..Sticky Password didn't work to well on my computer I got it free from Give Away of the Day. If you a looking for another free password manager and form filler try Al Pass from here http://www.altools.n...abid/56/Default.aspx

I have used Roboform2Go for over a year and would not be without it. It is worth every penny.
It is probably the most useful program I have.

You probably wouldn't need them very badly. The only one I've seen is written in compiled AutoIt to help speed up form-filling. You get source code, but it only works with IE, not with other browsers, because only IE has the API. With Firefox, you just have to click in the first box, Alt-Tab back to KeePass and press Ctrl-V.

I have only 5 columns of logins in RoboForm but couldn't bear to be without it.
As no other tool has the ability to import from RoboForm its not likely I'll change.

I second the opinion on Opera. RoboForm is why I didn't get past the first day of trying it out.

Works for me too. I have no idea why someone would say that KeePass Password Safe does not work with Firefox. It's not nearly as convenient as RoboForm, since you have to configure each password entry and manually locate the login form, but it does work as designed, with Firefox.

Honestly, Sticky Password is aimed now only for users who want to manage their passwords. But we are doing all the best to make password management features better.

Unfortunately Opera is not supported yet, however we support all popular browsers and usual programs. Even written on Java (this is really unique feature for now).

All features of desktop mode are supported in portable mode. Sticky Password will work in any environment as it works on your desktop computer. Portable mode includes such features like autorun when device is plugged in and auto-unload when device is unplugged.

Password protector feature also makes Sticky Password different from others. It will notify you when some program will try to retrieve password from another program or web browser window. It works in portable mode as well, so you can feel safe in Internet Cafe or at someone's else computer.

Just try Sticky Password and don't hesitate to ask and request features.

I've been wanting to use RoboForm for years, due to the beautiful way it locates and fills login forms either automatically (which uses extra CPU time), or at the click of a button. But even after aaaaall this time, they have yet to add any way to import data from other applications. And there's no way I can or will manually type all that info over again...

well... I have returned to Opera as my main browser (after trying FF seriously for about 2 months).

I believe you can get Roboform to generate passwords -
if you don't happen to have it with you, you're screwed,
but I suppose that's the same with any passwords unless they in your head

I save the passwords in roboform and then type the important ones into keepass.

By the way, you can get roboform for free (base roboform) via trialpay. Check it out at roboform.com

KeePass is awesome! I love it. I pretty much wont consider another password program...

By the way, it works with everything. In the notes section there is 2 commands: "Auto-Type-Window" and "Auto-Type". A.T.W. lets KeePass know what window it's suppose to type into, A.T. tells it what to type.

Here's what I have for DonationCoder...

Auto-Type-Window: *DonationCoder*
Auto-Type: {USERNAME}{TAB}{PASSWORD}{ENTER}

The {USERNAME} variable types whatever is in the username field (like "SendInput" in AutoHotkey), {PASSWORD} types the password field. I use it for tons of stuff, like filling in my city and state when I use an online phone book, and for using DirectoryOpus' FTP Quick Connect. Also registration keys for programs.

It's portable (just unzip it), OS, etc. etc.! I can't say enough about it.

I've used both as well: I'm just in the [slow] process of converting over from KeePass to RoboForm (after being a very happy [until things stopped working] user of PINs).

To get an entry from KeePass to RoboForm all you have to do is login using KeePass (as normal) and RoboForm will pop up and ask if you want to save a new LogIn... easy.

Going the other way would be more problematic as the only export is to print, but you could use that as a source file somehow (even if it's just copy and past)

You can't go past the KeePass price. I'm using RoboForm because of a TrialPay offer.
