IDEA: Desktop System Specs Info
« on: November 21, 2006, 10:01 PM »
Aite i'm talking about something like this

Basically a little tool that when run will sit in the tray & provide realtime info on customisable info on your system which you can place where you want.

These images are taken from Bginfo ~ microsofts very old suggestion of a tool to do this - http://www.microsoft...tilities/BgInfo.mspx

I know theres a few out there like samurize but really they are like entire programs & just consume too much memory. Just thinking of something simple along the lines of the first picture above, simple straightforward. Refreshed every say 5 minutes? or configurable.

Let me know if this has been done/suggested before/a better one exists anyway.

Cheers!

yup.
it HAS been done amigo.

and you answered your own request already.
what's wrong with Samurize?

i find it to be extremely low on system resources.
and it DOES provide realtime stats.

i use Samurize with Desktop Coral by Mouser (the forum head admin)

Some years ago, i used to use rainmeter. It's also very well known, and i think it's not as resource-expensive as samurize. (i don't think it looks as good, though).
For getting the full stats, i suggest everest (which still keeps a free version).

[edit] I shouldn't be this outdated.. Sorry![/edit]

Can you actually find the free version of Everest - I have looked recently for the latest version and can't find it (maybe it is just me being dumb) - there just seem to be 2 paid for versions now.

Rainmeter is now here http://www.ipi.fi/~rainy/legacy.html an is treated as a legacy app.

Thanks Carol, looks like i'm severely outdated.

I'm sorry rainmeter isn't available anymore, it was a very good piece of software :(
And i also thought that everest still kept that free version but took it support. Apparently, they don't even host it anymore. It still is possible to download it elsewhere, though.
