What Labeler / Cover Printing Software Do you Recommend?
« on: September 23, 2006, 12:33 PM »
I've never found the perfect labeling / cover printing software.. Does anyone have recommendations?

I'm interested in things like:
Printing out a song list on a cd tray.
Printing out mailing addresses from an (avery) sheet of mailing addresses.

I'm interested in ease of use as much as power.
And having a program that knows about lots of existing label layouts so i don't have to configure labels manually is important.

Any suggestions?

I'm also searching for the "perfect" cover printing program. Never found one, yet.

For CD/DVDs I'm using SureThing CD Labeler and for other labels I use use a program called "Labels Unlimited 1.0" from 1994. I even used it under Windows 3.11. Perfect combination of "ease of use and powerful". It still works and serves my purpose. There's an enhanced version 2.0 of it, but I never got it working.

Other programs I tried

SureThing Office Labeler
Droppix Label Maker (http://www.droppix.c...oduit.php?produit=10)
"My Labels"  (http://www.avanquest...my_label_des_dlx.asp)
Visual Labels (http://www.rkssoftwa...labels/overview.html)

Printing out a song list on a cd tray.

Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker (works well with their burning software)

Printing out mailing addresses from an (avery) sheet of mailing addresses.

(check main site for other labeling programs)

In Germany Avery has a monopoly of sorts on labels and stuff. They offer software and templates and such: http://avery.com/us/.../index.jsp?wtloc=top

this looked promising but the website has vanished since.. :(
DLabel Creator (v0.8 beta)

DLabel Creator allows you to easy create different labels for any
purposes: CD labels, floppy disk labels, compact cassette labels and
custom labels. DLabel Creator is freeware and you are free to use the
program as long as you like without payment.

btw, just remembered Neato.

I found CD & DVD Box Labeler Pro to be pretty good if you're still living on the Windows side of things. Not much to say about it other than it works for me.

For address labels I'll just use whatever templates are available in my installed wordprocessor app, and do a data merge into that.

I have concluded that using labels on cds/dvds is counter productive -- they delaminate over time, as others have pointed out, and can cause problems.

Printing jewelcase inserts is a different matter of course.

I came into this thread to ask who in the world still uses CDs and then discovered the original post was from 2006.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

P.S. If anyone is reading this and does need something to fill this need, SureThing is still around and they are probably the best in this area of software.

Yes...we are. We're not necessarily proud of it. But we hope to be loved for what we are. ;D

Musicians can literally live out of the back of a van. For years. And think it's normal. And it's not even their van.
