Wait, wait, wait, are you telling me that you arranged all the icons in your desktop in a heart-shaped menu? Groovy! :P

So, although a hint of my desktop was published in another thread (a tough guy and some hilarious looking thugs blocked part of it), let's publish the latest version. It's still WIP, most of the icons will head for Recycle Bin Village, some software is not running as I have to configure something here and there and the desktop theme will change. The background also changes in every boot, thanks to Wallpaper Master.

It's Zhang Ziyi. My favorite Chinese actress.

Oh... Sorry. Yes : 2046, Crouching Tiger...
I can never remember actor/tress.
So...I see. That's why she looked familiar.  ;)

Here's mine at the moment. It's still a work-in-progress, but I think I'm heading in the right direction :)

@ Dirhael - your desktop is high class!

Would tell which apps are behind the various buttons and effects, please?  :tellme:

Would you believe mine is the classic blue screen with only four icons on it?

Stop laughing. Please stop.  :o

I have four icons on my classic blue desktop as well! Actually, as soon as I post this I'm removing two of the icons because I've just realised that I NEVER use them, so I'll be down to Recycle Bin and YourUninstaller.

Thanks! :)

As you requested, here's a breakdown of the components that make up my desktop:

1. The visual style is a modified version of the default Vista Aero theme. I just didn't like the start "orb" so I used Restorator 2007 to edit it. I didn't start out with a unmodified theme though, I used this editied version as a base. The reason for this is that this mod have modified the taskbar to a reasonable size, instead of the oversized fat thing Microsoft shipped. As for using custom themes, you can either patch the dll files that's responsible for the visual styles (free), or if you'd like something non-permanent you could check out TuneUp Utilities 2007 (commercial).

2. The cover art etc. in the lower left corner is the excellent freeware application CD Art Display (works with most players). As for the looks for it, I'm using the Celluloid Enthusiast skin.

3. The dock I'm using is Stardocks Objectdock (free and commercial "+" version available), along with my own dock icons (just a quick PS job using the "Trajan Pro" font) and the Konfabulator Glass background theme (don't remember where I got it from, so I've uploaded it to one of my servers).

4. The playback controls in the upper right is True Launch Bar (highly recommended!) with the Media Control Plugin and a skin called "Come Out". Once again, I don't recall where I got the skin so I've uploaded that to my server as well :)

5. The wallpaper is a beautiful vector called "Facing Life" (yes, it's Adriana Lima :-*) by someone calling himself "snir" over at deviantart.

If I've forgotten anything, let me know and I'll update my post!

Wow; Dirhael, this surely must have taken you quite some time to do!

I don't think I will be able to reproduce it at my desktop, because I am using Earth Watcher which is not a common wallpaper, but places itself on top of the actual wallpaper from Webshots - (so I would expect it to hide some buttons as well, but I have not yet tried this, so I really don't know - we will se later on) - :

@Curt

If you like Dirhael's dock icons, download Reflections CAPS by ~styrizo to create your own (Preview Here). Alternatively, check out Reflections Vol. I , Reflections Vol. II , and Reflections Vol. III.

Yes, it is beautiful. I think it is so beautiful that I am trying not to see it too often (but only during startup), in order not to get so fed up that I wouldn't appreciate it anymore - if you know what I mean?

I cannot give you the widescreen version, because Webshots then will force me to let it replace the one I have, but here is 1600x1200 Shafts of Light from Antelope Canyon, Arizona:

Yes, I know what you mean, Brandon. My kid sister grew up here in Copenhagen, when I was raised in the other end of the country. When I joined my Copenhagen part of the family as an young adult, I immediately started to explore the "big" city, and very soon I knew more about it than she did, though she had fifteen years in advance.

Thanks Curt! Yes, I've had similar experiences... my wife knows my hometown, where we have settled, better than I do and I grew to know hers better than she does. Funny how familiarity can breed not so much contempt as indifference or complacency.

Thanks, Phil, for taking the time to supply these links. I should say that I really like the look of these text icons, but I don't think I am going to use them myself, because I remember pictures, places and stuff, but it is seldom that I can remember a name.

@ TucknDar, can you please tell what program / technique you used to blur this small part of your picture?

You could use ScreenShot Captor ;)

Oh and while I am here - I currently have a Simpsons Movie desktop image (the one of Home being speared on a fork by a demolition ball). Not that I can see him too much because of all the clutter that needs tidying up.

I will be able to do the same trick with my FastStone Capture 5.7 within the next couple of weeks, says Andrew from FastStone.

Changed my desktop slightly since my last post as I installed XP alongside Vista…again. I like Vista but some things just works better in XP so dual-booting is still necessary and I suspect this will continue for quite some time. Oh well, it just gives me an excuse to install even more applications :D
