@Tuxman: You should report these through the proper channels.

Well, looking at the max. number of visitors on the 25th and Cloudflare 'checking your browser' message when first accessing the site, I can only conclude the same as tuxman did, but obviously, Cloudflare is doing its job as a loadbalancer, though that might throw some 50x's in the process

Yes, most likely.
DC was repeatedly down for few minutes since yesterday 25 dec 2018, as per Uptime robot, I use.

Also noting lots of spam messages in my rss feed, which are deleted by moderator.

So concluding some short of spam attack is there.

Regards,

Anand

Yep, someone decided a nice gift to us would be to test our attack defenses again

Re: Is DC attacked again? - "No subject filled in"

Well, I had been noting a huge amount of spam in my RSS feed ever since the new website was launched - spam had occurred before, but to a much lesser extent. And there seemed to have been some even more excessive bursts of spam over the last couple of weeks.
But this latest Cloudflare checking:
Checking your browser before accessing donationcoder.com.
This process is automatic. Your browser will redirect to your requested content shortly.

Please allow up to 5 seconds…

DDoS protection by Cloudflare
Ray ID: 48f6b9a437629529
- seems to be a really great innovation as it tells you "No subject was filled in" and expunges the content of your typed responses when you click the Preview button.
Hmm...which is a rather effective automatic censorship system, come to think of it.

Thanks for assisting us with DDOS testing (not willingly I know).  We have suspended the stress testing on this server after you have enabled Cloudflare I'm Under Attack mode and the site remained in down state afterwards for most the of world, for more than 4 hrs up till the ceasing of atk.

We are currently in development of systems to directly penetrate defences of a number of JS-based CDN protection providers (inc. Cloudflare, Incapsula etc.), without the knowledge or access of the origin IPs.

Great work on the server maintenance and configuration btw, handling 15K concurrent users is generally more than sufficient. :)

Happy New Year!

We'd appreciate if you found someone else to attack.

We have and we will have to... if a site is down for hrs without end after enabling I'm Under Attack mode then it's not a good test target. Thanks and best of luck going forward.

I'm confuzzled. If it's not a "public service", then is there some point to DDOS, other than maybe deliberate nuisance or to (say) push business at organisations such as Cloudflare?
I'm trying to figure out under what conditions it would make sense to do this. I must be missing something.

Hacking, DDOS etc is not confined to "big" sites, important sites and it has never been. It is about games and anybody with a tool showing off and trying to gain a reputation in the dark corners. My site, a very very minuscule part of the web with zero thing or data of interest, gets attacked by those trying to login ...is just one example to prove the point

Same here.  One of the reasons I've minimized my use of WordPress now.

Everyone should remember that it's very common for people to claim they are responsible for some action like this when they really had nothing to do with it.  So don't assume the person posting is connected to it in any way, as opposed to just wanting to stir up some controversy/attention.
