Outcast - Second Contact is free for a little less than two days at this point.  I think you have to sign up for the newsletter to get it, though.

Also, Humble freebies are usually for Steam keys that you have to activate within some time period. Once it's been activated it stays in your Steam account forever.

For this game it looks like there's no Steam key, it's a DRM-free download that you have to download before November 29th. After that point the download link is inactivated and you're responsible for keeping/backing-up the game installer.  At least that's how I read the fine print.

So just keep in mind that this is a little different than other Humble free games and you'll be OK.

I don't normally go for Early Access games these days, but Geneshift is free (to keep, permanently) if you claim it in the next couple of days:

https://store.steamp...pp/308600/Geneshift/

EDIT: Looks like it's essentially a demo. It's a limited, non-fully-featured version of the game.  :(

I believe its just the 'battle royale' component...

not sure how that works in a 2D shooter, but perhaps thats part of the fun...

Yes, but it seems even that is limited (emphasis added below):

The [complete edition] includes extra game modes, cosmetics, online co-op, and a full singleplayer campaign

So from the sounds of it, you can play online free-for-all PVP but you can't play online with any friends/team-mates. :(

Latest Epic Games Store Giveaway
« Reply #61 on: December 24, 2018, 01:30 AM »
Epic Games recently launched their own digital games store, bringing more competition to similar services such as Steam and GOG.

They're currently running a promotion where they are giving away one game every two weeks. From now until December 27th, 2018, they're giving away Subnautica, and from Dec 28 2018 until Jan 10 2019 they'll be giving away Super Meat Boy.

The games must be claimed using the Epic Games store/launcher: https://www.epicgames.com/

According to this thread, Starpoint Gemini 2 is free on Steam if you claim it soon. I already have it from a previous giveaway and it isn't showing as free for me, so I'm not sure if the giveaway already ended. But it may be worth looking into to claim if you are interested.

Blast Zone! Tournament is an Early Access game which is being given away between now and the 16th.

It looks kind of like Bomberman.

For those that are interested in the Dyatlov Pass Incidentw, (a couple of mentions on DC here and here), the game Khalot is available free on Steam for a limited time.

Narrated by one of the most popular British actors, Sean Bean, Kholat is an exploration adventure game with elements of horror, inspired by a true event known as the Dyatlov Pass incident – a mysterious death of nine Russian hikers, which led to countless, unconfirmed hypotheses. The player will plunge directly into the boundless scenery of the inhospitable Ural Mountains with the task to find out what really happened. In the course of events, you may come across more speculations than expected...

I haven't been very good about keeping this thread up to date.

The current giveaway is Slime Rancher through March 21.

I've been playing it quite a bit. It's a whimsical, low-stress game.

I'd not been remembering.  Too many platforms to remember them all.  Despite the free games, I just don't feel the impetus to visit this one.

I mostly agree with you. To this day I still have never installed the EA store, whatever that's called. And over the past couple of years I've even mostly stopped buying from Steam and preferring the DRM-free offerings at GOG. But I already had Epic Games Launcher (now Epic Games Store) installed because someone gifted me a copy of Fortnite (the co-op Save the World campaign) for Christmas in 2017. And I've had Slime Rancher on my wish list on GOG for a while so when it was free on the Epic Store I decided this was my chance to try it out, and I'm glad I did because I like it.

It's funny to see what platforms people use and don't.  I think I have all of them installed, but the only ones I keep running are Steam and Itch.  I get stuff off of GoG, but it just doesn't in general have everything that I use/want to play.  I use origin and uplay for that same reason- they have stuff that I want to play.  Epic, not so much.
