About When Last: I'm running the latest beta, but I'm using quite a long title, that's probably the reason it looks a bit cramped. Unless you have a few tricks up your sleeve...

Latest beta (2.12) of WhenLast now has a widget option to split title and date onto separate lines -- should look much better in cases like yours.

ps. Future WhenLast discussion should take place on WhenLast thread: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=40182

I've been using the app for the last couple of weeks and I am having good luck with it so far
It does take some discipline though  >:(

I'm just testing to see how it behaves, and it does quite nicely :D I'm just not adhering to the suggested mode :P

I just wonder why a state shift doesn't show immediately in the widget, it shows the last state with 0s remaining while the countdown of the new state is (already) started, 'cause when I press the widget it shows the actual state and current time left, and when returning to my homescreen that state/time is shown on the widget :tellme:

An android widget is not supposed to update super frequently, in order to reduce cpu use.  I could add an option to make it update more frequently.

Well, the countdown time is updated quite often..., the new mode is only updated after opening the widget/app, AFAICS :-[

Not sure why I didn't reply to this yet, but I believe I fixed this problem in the last update.

Hey guys, I think there may be something to this app!

I've been using it for the last couple of weeks now, following the rules, and losing weight.  And not suffering too terribly :)

The key, for me personally, really does seem to me to be this idea of having an occasional feast (cheat) day followed immediately by a day of fasting.

Psychologically, the fact that I can look forward to an entire day when I can eat whatever I want is very helpful in helping me stick to my diet during the week.

And then, even more importantly, the day of fasting comes in to halt the runaway feedback avalanche that would otherwise kick in after I start eating junk food.  This is absolutely critical because the fast really does seem to reset my cravings, and without it they just seem to get stronger.  After the end of the day of fasting I'm back to just wanting a little normal food.

So.. I feel like I want to recommend that other people give this app a try.  Tweak the durations of the modes to see what works for you.  Maybe if your serious buy yourself a cheap tablet for the kitchen, put it on a stand, and just leave the app running on that.

Let me know if it works for you!

Caveat: Let me reiterate that this app does not tell you how to eat most of the time -- if you want to lose weight you will have to find a reasonable, moderate diet that you can stick with most of the time, hopefully with some exercise sprinkled in.  For me that's generally a low-carb diet and regular running.  The primary function of this app is to let you blow off steam and indulge occasionally without getting derailed from your diet.

I reported the issue of not changing to the next stage on v1.23, and according to the FP, that's the latest..., so I don't think a fixed version is released yet :-[

I must have just forgotten to post here about the update. Can you try the latest version and let me know if it's fixed?

Just installed the update (v1.26), set the times as short as possible, and so far it has switched manually from normal to feast, and then automatically to fast-mode, so it's looking good

I've been testing Feast/Fast day, and it's switching between modes like a champ. Works exactly as intended.

Now I've only got to follow it's instructions, not losing any wait so far... :-[

Updated to fix bug where multi-device sync on a brand new install could override values on an older install on another device, instead of vice-versa.

An idea here -- first, a disclaimer: haven't used / seen this app in use (currently on a windows phone)

This could be an interesting app if one could change the text for each mode.
Then, instead of being to do with eating, it could be e.g. to do with sport, or to do with generally keeping the house in order:

Normal would be: 'normal' minimal (defined) amount of housework
Feast would be: do nothing around the house
Fast would be: extra cleaning

Just throwing it out there -- probably problematic if one wanted to have two versions on the phone...

you can.

you can customize the colors, the mode labels, the durations, etc.

I tried to install it on my DOOGEE Y100X phone, which is currently running Android 5.0-R03-2015.08.26 but it tells me the app cannot be installed on my device.  I've tried updating Android, but I'm being told Android is currently up to date..

Any advice?

I wish I understood these Android compatibility things better.  Have you tried installing the apk directly or are you trying the play store? Have you tried both ways?

Nope..just the play store.  Excuse my ignorance, but how do I go about installing the apk directly?

What version of the API did you target when you made the APK? Android 5.0 is API 21. So if you targeted anything >21 it would say it wasn't compatible with Android 5.0 or below.

Download the APK from the original post onto your device and then install it from your device. You may have to enable installing from "Unknown Sources" in your device's Security settings before it will let you install the APK.

I've been running it on my Android 4.x tablet from the start (API 15/16 or so), so Android version compatibility doesn't seem to be an issue here.
That I couldn't install this (and other direct-download apps) on some occasions has to do with me running a 'screen overlay' app (Twilight), that explicitly needs the Android Installer to be excluded or the installer won't allow to install apps... (security feature! the screen-overlay app was too late/slow in temporarily disabling itself in time) Nailed that by buying a new tablet 8) the old one was old (2012) and slow, and now all is fine.

Thanks guys for the suggestions and advice..much appreciated.

I managed to download the app to my phone and was able to install it once I changed the security settings to allow installing of apps from "Unknown Sources"..as Deozaan suggested above (  )..and it seems to be working just fine now.  :)

This is an interesting approach. I've heard about research suggesting that allowing for occasional rich meals can help with weight loss by reassuring the primal mind and body not to panic that there's a pending famine.

My own approach is a bit different although based on the same premise. I have found it most useful to keep track of my calorie intake (at least a rough estimate) using a simple calorie counter app, and to use a spreadsheet for some basic statistics. I use the upper bound of a  chosen confidence interval to limit the damage of "feast" days and the lower bound for "famine" days to keep my overall average down while at the same time minimising the standard deviation / variance.

Hi neverlight.
If you can think of specific easy feature ideas I'm definitely interested in hearing them.

As for calorie counting -- my experience is that there are lots of very good full featured diet apps that do that kind of thing so I am hesitant to compete with them.
However I do have a very quick calculator type control I could add if we wanted some very basic manual calorie counting..
