Cookies click driving me crazy
« on: April 05, 2016, 08:20 AM »
Every web page I go to now, they want me to click a button after they tell me their site uses cookies!!  I have one question.  Can they not set a cookie to remember that I clicked the button last time? After all, I told them it was OK to put a cookie on my system.  So why don't they instead of being annoying?

Apparently, it's to satisfy the EU "Cookie Law" that went into effect around 2004 or so, with the hard deadline being September 15, 2015.

What weirds me out is how the most popular Javascript cookie consent plugins on GitHub all use the phrase "Got It!" instead of "OK!"

Yeah.  It makes me feel like I am in 2nd grade and the teacher explains what a file is, and what a cookie is(no not the ones mom gives you to eat at recess.)  Then the teacher says "Got it?"  Well, no.  I don't get it.  There should be a "Yes, No, Cancel" on that dialog.

What a world!  They make the law after Netscape and descendants have been in use for over two decades.  But the armored truck has an "equipment malfunction," the doors swing open and dump bags of money right in front of Whitey Bulger!  As if he needed more cash!  Like they sang on Sesame Street.. "One of these things is not like the others."   Hmmmm.     :)

heck these people have a whole Thread on it. Lots of Cookie Monster Eaters :)
Every browser has their own best of class.  Just clean the cupboard (cache) from time to time or just give it up anyway.
After all, it's the ones that don;t announce their presence that you have to worry about.
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean Big Brother ISN'T watching, right? :o

Exactly. The ones that do announce their presence, in this vein, are nuisance with those stupid boxes insulting the obsessive compulsive side of me (and apparently a lot of other people). So we're seeking a solution to get rid of that nuisance.

I too hate the so called Cookie Law with the passion.
It has basically failed every supposedly good intentions of informing and educating about cookies, becoming just another silly annoyance.
It's such a retarded thing that it could have come only from an international committee of bureaucrats.

It was even better than that. It came from an EU "Internet committee" of unelected bureaucrats. Experience indicates that such groups can usually be relied upon to produce the most moronic regulations.

The next one will be a required confirmation dialog every time you try to click OK.  Then when you click on the OK button on the confirmation dialog you will get another that says "Are you sure you're sure you really want to do this?"  With buttons, Yes, No, Maybe, I'll think it over pop up again in 10 seconds.

Necro-thread, arise!

I just came across this wonderfully geeky cookie disclaimer which popped up in the bottom right corner of my browser window:

Fun.

Looks like the site is running on apache.  You got the skinny straight from the "root."  :)
Instead of the "goody two shoes" cookeis msg I would like to see the hard nosed justification for tracking cookies.  Not that you get a "personalized experience" but that they get "gross increased 25% over the same quarter last year."  ;)
