Launching Win10 "Apps" from FARR.
« on: September 15, 2015, 01:25 PM »
Hello.

It seems that FARR does not recognize the new Win10 "Apps" (e.g. Edge, Calculator, Groove Music, etc).
I noticed because I just installed Win10 and I could not get FARR to bring the calculator up. I had to install WinAero's Old Calculator to be able to access a full calculator from FARR (the FARR fc plugin is nice, but not super user friendly).

Is there any plans to fix that?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the others, but Microsoft Edge is not a simple installation like it was in windows.  You can see signs of this if you right click on the icon in the start menu.  You also cannot directly run MicrosoftEdge.exe even after you find it.

SuperUser has a question (and answer) on this subject, i.e. http://superuser.com...h-microsoft-edge-br#

to replicate the information, the correct link for the application is: %windir%\explorer.exe shell:Appsfolder\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftEdge

(and on another point, looking at the comments on the question, it looks pretty toxic there towards asking questions...)

I have a very real feeling that most the new and funky "Apps" are the same.
Searching with Everything, I can find that Calculator, Camera, Calendar, etc appear to live in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps under very weird paths:

Weirder yet, I can't manage to get access to this path which appears to be restricted.
In any case... Back to the original question: The new Apps are not accessible from FARR. Are there any plans to remedy to that?

You could add that folder to the search path and see if that remedies it.  I have my doubts, but its a good start for a try.

Hi,

Sorry to bring such an old topic back to life.

Has anybody found a solution to access Windows 10 "Apps" from FARR?

I have tried addind "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" to search folders without success.

Thanks.
Fran
