Hi!

I did a scan with Kaspersky and got three errors I just don't understand, or how to fix them myself:

service termination timeout is out of admissable values

and

process response timeout is out of admissable values

and

process termination timeout is out of admissable values

Because I'm using a different anti-virus, I can't install Kaspersky too, to address this issue.

Can anyone out there help me?  (I tried Googling these and got nowhere)

Thanks!

This sounds like the crap advise you'd expect from hoax-systemscanners.
I'd get a second opinion, by using one of the other, reputable, on-line scanners.

+1 - Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 Offline bootable CD that has worked wonders for me in the past. Granted it ain't fast...but it ain't missed anything yet either.

Thank you both for your replies.

Unfortunately, Kaspersky has been giving me several false positives too, so I don't dare run the rescue disk or it will delete files that are actually good.

Does anyone know what those three statements mean?

Maybe it's time to dump kaspersky?

It sounds to me like kaspersky has a bug and is crashing..
Or am I misunderstanding?

Are these "errors" reports of problems on your pc, or are they errors being thrown by the scanner because it's having trouble?

The statements are part of the scan results, under the category:

Other issues

Information about vulnerabilities associated with the settings of installed applications and the operating system.

Ah.. ok my guess then is that it may be you have some registry settings corresponding to process timeouts that may be larger than kaspersky thinks they should be.  seems harmless to me, but its kind of silly that it's not telling you where to find this setting.

Do the pages:

http://support.kaspe...vzscripts/tsw.avz.51

and

http://forum.kaspers...ndex.php/t81420.html

explain the problem/reason why kis throws the error message sufficiently for you?

Read through all the comments available on the second link to get a clearer picture..

Thank you for your help.

After visiting the links, I was able to locate one of the items and adjust it.

I do think Kaspersky is fear-mongering and scaring people about unimportant or non-issues.

That is the typical MO of any anti-virus company, after all that is their bread and butter.
